Congratulations Greg!!!! BUT now that you won (which I think you should have!!!!) aren't you gonna post HOW it happened, or just keep us guessing. I THINK that it one of those OOOPS!!! that ALMOST got me once -- getting out of the truck without setting the parking brake when I was "in a rush". #@$%! BUT I caught it before I even let go of the door handle... . Oo. AND I won't do it again EITHER!!
PS--ACTUALLY, it looks like a good thing that the boat WAS there... . for the truck, at least!!!:-laf
I think I need a few drinks in me first, but unfortunatley, I'm at work...
Anyway... we were getting ready to leave the harbor, and I allowed an inexperienced driver to start up the beast so the ac could cool off the truck prior to our getting in and leaving.
The clutch was depressed to allow engine start, but it also was released w/ the stick in 2nd gear. Even with the p-brake engaged, the 780 or so ft lbs was enough to override it.
Panic ensued in the cab, and we're not really sure if the brake was applied or not, but the truck only had to roll 4 -5 ft before the S hit the F.
I was standing on the back of the boat during the whole thing, and actually ran
toward the truck as it approached, but quickly thought better of it and ran like h*ll towards the helm.
Luckily, it is a 13ft wide boat in a 14ft wide slip, so the mooring ropes have very little play to keep the hull from hitting the dock or our neighbors boat.
This kept the starboard corner from sinking lower, which would have allowed the p-side tire to fall off the dock and put the full weight of the CTD in the back of the boat.
Fortunately as well, we did not cheap out on mooring lines as none snapped. I have an image in my mind of the ropes snapping, and the boat shooting out of the slip like a big bar of soap... while the truck goes under.
The starboard downrigger fought a valiant battle to the end, defiantly jousting it's boom into the oilpan and mashing it into the crankshaft.
It took 2 full size 10-wheeler wreckers, one on each side, positioned at 45 deg. angles to the doors to boom out, and pick the truck off. I rigged the straps through the aluminum rims.
All in all, damage was minimal to the CTD, although some horrifying (it's our Baby!) cosmetic damage was inflicted to the Tiara.
Our charter boat is called "Gills Gone Wild"... Now you know why! :-laf
