I have noticed it 3 times this winter so far again last night. If the 02 with the HPFP 150 sits outside with temps at -10 or colder My FASS Pump will not run at first startup. I do not have a Fuel presure gauge but have the BD LED 5 psi warning light that stays lit up for about a minute after startup when it happens, normally it goes out after initial key on, the pump primes for a second and turns the light off even before cranking it up.

When I start it up when its that cold the fass will not kick in or build pressure. I even just cycled the key and bumped the starter and still nothing. It did kick in and the light went out after about a minute of sitting and idling and had no problems afterwards. It has had aprox 50/50 fuel mix and amsoil cold flow improver in it so fuel viscosity shouldn't have been an issue.

Anyone else ever have this problem with the Fass pumps in cold weather?

I'm wondering if I have the same issue with an older FASS unit - when bitter cold the pressure gauge sometimes drops to "0" - haven't figured out if it is sender, loose wire, gauge, or FASS yet. At -20, only showed 3-5 pressure - don't remember this being a problem in the past. And, I don't know how much good it will do to have someone look at it when it is an intermittant issue. I'd like to hope we're done with the -20 to -34 for this winter!

Had it happen to me yesterday (about-15), though not as bad. Truck started and idled fine, I didn't pay attention to my pressure at first, but as soon as I got off my road and accelerated towards 40-50 the pump was making a loud whine, and my psi was only 10-12. It normally idles at 18-20 and only drops to 15-16 under very hard acceleration. Acted like this for about an hour, I stopped and got some fuel treatment and ran errands the rest of the day. By the time I got home several hours later, it was up to about 5 above, and all had returned to normal. I guess for now I am chalking this up to the really cold temps. Good luck.

Are you running an additive when it gets below 30F? Do you have outside brushes or the new style pump? It was 20 below here several nights last week and mine starts right away. Also is your harness plugged into the factory harness? (newer style)

Time to get a fp gauge

Got the new style pump and I am running schaeffers soy treat and amsoil cold flow improver with my 50/50 mix.

Thought about it but the led works for me.

... so i take it you are running bio then? Might try thinning out the mix to B-25 if you are..... Bio and cold (Even with aditives) dont really mix well.....

Also... . i would suggest a gauge over a light any day of the week..... Indicator Lights are just the cover of the book... while the gauges are the story... ...

Sorry it took me a bit to find this one.....

No bio here Its 50% #1, 50% #2 fuel. With Schaeffers soy treat fuel conditioner for added lubricity and the amsoil CF improver for insurance. Fuel consistancy is definately not the issue here. I am wondering if I have a week battery causing it to not run when the grid heaters are in full tilt and the draw from start up takes the alt a minute to recover the system when it is that cold it will test even the best batteries.
