Dude... . the weight of your bed is not even noticed on those rails. I picked my 5500 (204") in Idaho and rode to S. W Colorado and beat the **** out of my back. Not too sure on the following but maybe a lighter spring pack and HD bags to accomodate the 5th wheel when needed? Good fortune on your build and keep us posted with the pics.

I can't wait to get it done so I can see just how well it tows with those 4:44 gears

Do the manual trans come with 4:44 as i was under the impression that they were all 4:88?

Thanks for the photo's of your great trucks, They are really top of the line and I just love them. I have a 98 12 valve which I bought brand new, still love the truck and it runs better today then when I bought it and it's been across the US three time pulling a 12k 5er. I really think you will ove your new truck, congratulations... ...

hardcorediesel, you got one heck of a strong back even my german shepherd on top of three blankets in the back seat doesn't like the ride. no one wants to ride in it more than once.

What wheelbase matches up with a stock bed, how did you make your bed mounts to make it work with the flat frae rails? I was looking at the sterling specs and you can order 410 444 or 488 gears in both the 4500 and the 5500. I was wondering if the 19. 5's are taller and if they would make the ratio any higher to an identical geared 3500 pickup?

:-laf I guess after owning 1-tons for the last 13 years I have gotten used to a stiff riding truck!

i sold an '03 3500 dully QC 2 wd CTD and an '05 3500 dully QC 4x4 CTD to get the '08 5500.

the '03 2wd road smooth. of course the infrastructure in CA sucks some of the worst roads i've ever driven on. :)

the 5500 can carry the weight of both 1-tons

still envy your back!

Thanks! I love this truck. As for the spare I carry it on my trailer that is almost always attached to the truck.

As for the space between the cab and the bed, I'm going to have an aluminum diamond plate tank (imagine big radiator) made to hold my water/meth supply. ;)

I see you live in San Jose... ... I lived in Fremont and Santa Clara for 13 years until everything I had for a hobby became unwanted out there!

yup, but i would rather be at my home in Deming, NM then here.

As far as hobbies go, i know what you mean.

Nice job. With only a quick glance many wouldn't even realize it wasn't a factory dually pickup.

Your're a better man than I am if you can drive that monster as an unloaded daily driver. I wanted a 4500 when they first showed up on dealer's lots but after test driving a couple of them I settled for "almost" and ordered a 3500 cab and chassis.

I told my doctor I had come up with a new way to "shake out" kidney stones BEFORE they get too damn big and well... ... . so far it's workin!!:-laf Cheaper and more fun that having them extracted!!

Then again it might have something to do with driving a Mack quad axle dump truck with a broken seat for a few months... :{

Either way I'm happy with the ride for now. :D

We considered a 5500 with a conversion but after riding in several we felt it would be over kill on the ride. I think you would have to have a 5er pinload of 5-6k before the truck would ride descent and not beat your 5er to death. It is a great top end truck hauler. Good luck with it. MKW have a great set of HD aluminum wheels that would look good.

Just A Couple Questions

Hardcore.....

Is it safe to say that dodge wont put the bed on for you?. or can you order it with one?

Is the frame C Channel or Hydroform?

Does it have that big Sterling 3rd member rear end?Like the F-450/550.

I wasnt able to see the frontend you were talking about!, Who makes the Magna?

Were are at work right now with our mouths watering at your rig. It is a bute!!!. ;).

Im thinking about one, along with a large Slide in Camper. I just picked up a 8X18 Hallmark Edge that id pull behind it.

Mac:cool:

the frame is "C" channel.

Warren truck bodies is the authorized dully bed maker for the C & C's

i love mine, even though it is rough riding, i have no bed on mine and the tongue weight of the bumper pull 14k trialer doesn't have enough tongue weight to make a difference.

maybe someone else can answer your questions about the differentials.

It has a 50,000 PSI C-Channel frame, has the big Dana rear S-111 axle (like f-550 & Sterling), front axle is bigger than the HD Dana 60 and is made by Magna.

Can only order 4500 & 5500 as Cab & Chassis. You can DIY like I did or have it shipped through a upfitter to get a dually bed installed. It is the BEST truck I have ever owned..... so far!;)

Updated with pics of truck at work & new wheels...
