Finally i have the exhaust i always wanted and it performs like no other i've had on the truck. I installed a 51" Donaldson muffler attached to the factory pipe, a four inch elbow with a 5 to 4 reducer welded to the other side of the elbow. From there up it is all five inch into the bed with a five inch chrome stack. It sounds like stock at idle with a growing grunt as the throttle goes down. I wanted something quite since i carry my wife and three kids on three day trips all summer long. I chose the stack because i love the rig look. It took me a long to start this project because it is a pain do to the bed cover which had to be moved and cut to fit. Sorry for the long story i'm just excited. Here are some pics of the install:

PS Forgot the bet part; my old system was a single 5 inch cat back MBRP. My EGT at idle three days ago was hovering around 260. Now it is at 85 degrees. I lowered my EGTS by 200 degrees across the board. Totally awasome. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

How about a video clip :D Oughta sound good hammering on it in the Lincoln Tunnel ;)

85F idling EGT, it must either be really cold out or you dinged your pyro wire while doing your project and threw it off . . .

I agree...

85F EGT at idle seems impossible. Even in the coldest months, the lowest I can get my EGT at idle is 225F at idle with it in Park. If its in Drive, then its approx 50F higher.

The MBRP 5" CAT back system is a really good one... there is no way you improved your EGT by 200F "across the board" with your mod.

Congrats on the install, it looks great.

Kudos on the strictly functional single stack.

Great looking install. I'd love to hear what it sounds like rowing through the gears.

I'll try to get some video today. My pyro wire runs across the firewall and onto the exhaust manifold. The work i did was under the truck and in the bed. No work in the engine bay was done. Also i have a turbo timer on the Edge box. I set it at different temperatures to see if the truck would turn of and it did. ??

Maybe?

The Edge Juice box i gave you is not working correctly with your Edge monitor. Thats why your reading those EGT's. Maybe?

The only time I have ever seen my pyro below 200° is when I was coming down the westside of the Eisenhower tunnel, in 6th gear coasting down it hit about 125°. I like the looks of it, if I was ever going to do a stack it would be a single. Does that configuration give you room to lay a 4X8 sheet of plywood down and still close the tailgate?

I haven't tried it yet but i don't think so. I'm pretty sure a sheet of plywood use to fit in perfect. On those rare occassions i will probably leave the gate open and strap it down.

What Donaldson did you use? I want to do a M100580.

Ok. There are a couple ways you can go. First of all the Donaldson muffler is basicaly same as Nelson. I got the Donaldson 51 because i'm tired of the loud noise. If the 51 is too quiet for you you can get a 41 inch version which has no drone towing heavy but is throatier than the 51. The 51 sounds like the stock muffler until you stomp it. The Donaldson 51 also has a cone shaped baffle inside of it which is not removable. I bent mine back into straight form to let more exhaust thru. If i left the baffle untouched i think it would have been a bit too quiet. The 51 Nelson does not have the baffle built in and is straight thru. The M100580 is the same 51 inch long but is 10 inches in diameter as opposed to the 9 inches on the one i installed. It also flows 200 more cfm than mine does and is a bit deeper sounding. I was thinking about going with that one also but was afraid of not having room to fit it. I looked at it at the parts store and these things are unbelivably humungous. After installing mine i think the 10 inch would have fit just fine. The M100580 is also 5 in and 5 out. Mine is 4 in and 4 out.

Part numbers are as follows:

Donaldson 41-M085171

Donaldon 51-M090544

Nelson 51-86131M

Gj I think it looks really clean. Maybe cold air is making it's way easier down the stack and to your probe?

Not sure. Kind of strange that my gauge would be messed up right after i installed the exhaust, considering i didn't open my hood the entire time. I'll confirm it with a Pyro gauge in a couple of weeks.

WHich supplier (national or local chain?) did you get your muffler from. Great looking stack. looking forward to the vid.

What is that I see on the hood?

It's an ugly ram air which is coming out in the next month or so. It is a hole directly on top of the air filter. Sounded like a good idea at the time. I think it actually lowered my intake temps a bit at highway speeds, but i'm putting together a new air intake system which should be done in a month or so. I'm a big fan of getting coldest air possible to my engine instead of hot asphalt or engine bay air, and i found a way to do it which i really like. Should be done soon and i'll post pics.
