Line-x guy called me today. He practically begged me not to do the Line-x right now. He told me that he did a truck last month which had 30 day old paint job & very bad results. I took that as a sign from above to not do it. I am gonna paint the bottom in Gunmetal grey for now, get Line-x in the fall. I'm really disappointed, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Thats why I dropped the warning to you about the Line X. I had right at 30 days on my paint and a small patch come off. No big deal it's going to the painter in a couple of weeks for a few fixes and a 3 day buffing. I see you painted the area between the windows on the doors, always wondered what that would look like.

I couldn't remember who told me about the Line-x. Thanks for the warning man. I'm putting the decals back on the door, just haven't bought them yet.

Ray,

I call it a 3 day buffing. My painter is going to spend 3 days smoothing things out, buffing and polishing truck.

Cummins724,

Are you going with the Line X xtra? I am glad I did with mine, I have seen several trucks around with bedliners that are faded and worn. Mine still looks likes the day it was sprayed, a little soap and water with a soft brush is all it takes to keep it shiney and wet looking.

Yep. Won't be getting Line-x for 60 days, but when I do its gonna be color matched X-tra.

I got all of the bottom [rockers] of the truck ready for paint... . amazing what you let go when you think Line-x guy is gonna deal with it. I plan on shooting the rockers the next day off work. Yesterday I sanded/polished my wheels, don't look too bad considering the way they looked before. My rear bumper showed up today [brand new replacement]. After work today, I cleaned out the shop & I am ready to spray. Almost there!!! :-laf

Thanks. I got the date mixed up, horse show is saturday.

looks outstanding... great job, absolutely love the colors. got me thinking i need to paint mine.

Mhannink: cost per gallon of paint is all over the board depending on quality/color. some paints are cheap, i'd guess $50-$100 per gallon, others can be as much as many hundreds per gallon. on top of the supply cost cummins724 mentions, i personally would plan another $500 on top of that for the tools you don't have such as da, sanding blocks, hammer/dolies, etc. then if you want to buff out, you'll need low speed buffer and pads which is another couple hundred. not cheap or fast. it blows me away that people get paint jobs done or a few hundred dollars. back in the mid 70's, a friend of my fathers would get $10,000 a paint job for a top quality finish.
