My 06 2500 now has 51,000 miles and is getting a vibration. I haven't had it apart lately. The vibration is most noticable above 65mph. I took it in today and had the tires rebalanced they are good. Any ideas or a point to start?

The center bearing, IF you have a 2 piece drive shaft, is between the rear differential and the transfer case--it connects the 2 pieces and hangs them from the frame on a rubber and metal bushing with a bearing in it. The bearing OR the bushing OR the u-joint that it connects to can each or all go bad.

I have a one piece drive shaft. I also am still not sold on the tires not being the problem. I bought Goodyead silent armor tires awile ago and they have been junk. I have 12,000 on them and they are 50% gone. I just rotated them and noticed the vibration after that. Like I said they did ballance out though.

You need to let us know where the vibration is coming from front, back or middle. Do you feel in the wheel, in the set of your oant or the floor board. THis will help narrow down where to start looking.

If youre feeling it in the steering wheel, you might suspect the steering damper. I have read on here that several people have had early failure/wearout on the factory dampers. With all the talk about how quickly they give up, I'm sure I will be buying an aftermarket one soon.

I feel the vibration more in the rear of the truck. But I do feel the wheel shacking some. But it seems to be in the rear. I am taking it to my buddys garage Monday. Maybe (hopefully) I just need U-Joints. My company just purchased me a new company truck( 09 Dodge Quad 2500 4WD) I get it next week, I thought about swaping wheels and tires to rule out that. I had a 05 2500 Dmax 4door 4wd, I hate to say it but that truck was a tank. I have 190,000 hard miles on it very minimal problems.

Since you noticed it after the rotation, most likely you have a out of round tire. You can balance them out, but you can not make it round. I would go to the dealer you bought them from and have them balance them again with you watching. While they are spinning you can tell if they are round. They will be warrantied and you will get new tires for the cost of tread used. Also, some of these tire monkeys don't know any thing about balancing either. They spin it, the machine says it needs x amount of weight, monkey installs weight, removes tire and mounts on vehicle. They need to re-spin the tire to see if it is in the right place and correct amount. Some of them will spin again, then if it says it needs more, they add it. They should try repositioning the weight they installed in the wrong place. Most of the time, you can move the weight a little towards the area the machine says where it needs more, spin it, now it is right.

Well said. Needs to be re-balanced after weight installed because if they're out of round it will be nearly impossible to balance. However, I realized a problem I had was that the weight itself wasn't mounting securely and was sliding around the rim as I drove. Be sure the balancing weights can't be moved easily by hand.
