My 2007 tossed the belt after the 62,000 mile factory water pump lost the bearing, no aftermarket and no factory pumps available, my mechanic has one coming in from out of state dodge dealer, truck has been down for 5 days so far, I found surrounding dealerships out of stock and several had 6. 7's waiting on pumps, prob a rash of bad water pumps I am thinking, its a shame the factory is shut down still and no products being made, beware if u have a 6. 7 until the supply catches up and the prob is solved. My 2 local dealers have closed and i called about 10 dealers in south texas trying to find a water pump close enuff to drive and go get, found one in lardeo texas and one in Mcallen, I close to wait!!!lol Wonder if Cummins has the 6. 7 water pumps??? My truck broke down out of town and I am now driving my old faithfull 1999 3500 with 5. 9. does anybody know what the difference between a 6. 7 water pump and a 5. 9 water pump is, i was wondering what the difference could be in the 2 pumps and if one could interchange and adapt one for the other somehow so i could get my truck back?? Thanks for any comments.

Fan Belt National shortage for 6.7

Well here is the update, got a water pump in from a car quest dealer auto parts house, it was in a cummins box and came from allen samuels chevolet in Houston texas, guess what??? The price was $300 something, I was glad to get it and took it to my out of town mechanic, his part supplier still had not shipped the water pump and belts to him, apartently his pc showed he had a pump in inventory as well as belts but in reality it was a 5. 9 cummins not a 6. 7 cummins. I opened up the water pump box and noticed the impeller is of a different design than my orginal stock unit. Oh well, should have figured the belt was not in stock as well!!! LMAO, this truck is a lemon if there ever was one. I talked to my orginal dealership about the downtime on this truck and all of the problems it was beginning to have, he told me that I should not idle the truck over 15 minutes with the a/c. Stunned, I told him that when I bought and paid cash for my truck it had no such sticker or warning not to idle over 15 minutes at a time, if they had told me a 1 ton 4x4 work truck for a ranch would not idle over 15 minutes I would have not bought it. The mechanic who is trying to get me running again tells me the 6. 7 is getting a lot of problems with a/c comoressors, water pumps failing wher people are working them in the oil feilds and ranches where they leave them running for the a/c. I am so disapointed with the whole Dodge/cummins deal I am serious about trying to get a refund under the lemon law, does anybody know how the lemon law works and how many recalls or downtime triggers it???? I am scared all of the high dipsticks from the egr system is going to blow the 6. 7 motor soon!!!! Hopelfully it will blowup under the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty so I can try to ask for a 5. 9 motor instead of the lemon 6. 7!!!!lol, just kidding, I know very well they cant install a 5. 9 legally into a 6. 7 2007!!lol Sorry for the rant but i am bummed out over this truck, I use it for a daily driver while feeding 30 horses hay and feed at my ranch, sometimes I leave the truck running while I am tossing hay or putting out feed in the stalls and then jump in it to cool down from thr 105 heat down in south texas. Who would have ever thought they would let this lemon 6. 7 out into south texas oil patches and ranches and farms???? PS, I proudly worked for a Dodge dealership for over 10 years from 78 to 88 more or less. Now both of the small dealerships in my area or closed and I have to drive 120 miles one way to a dodge house in Corpus Christi texas, which was no help in getting me a pump or belt for my 6. 7, they still have no pump or belts for me, thanks to god i did not tow it to them, lol, it would be outside like the others I hear stranded around south texas witht he same problems. Port Lavaca Dodge has 5 water pumps backorded and likewise on the belts!!!!!lol I did enjoy enjoy driving in my 1964 w200 crewcab dodge powerwagon when my new 07 threwup the pump and beltslol. wish I could buy it new again!!! Thanks for the rant!!

The 6. 7 water pump failure is not that common. I have only done 1 so far. Not bad for as many as I see. The idling is not a problem if you have the latest flash and have the hi idle enabled. These trucks are awesome if you have a good tech to keep you on track with what works.

"AS" 6.7 ECM Flash

Having the ECM flash "AS" on my 08 6. 7 and have it written down on my hood sticker and have them sign off on it, on monday and hi idle is enabled .

i think it came with ecm flash "AB" on it and nov 07 build date and yes the oil level is above the plastic marker hope this new flash fixes the regen issues

Dont understand they are saying the 10 model will have a locked ecm with all the flashes how can that be enabled?

Austin Diesel

The locked ECM's is only to prevent non Oem software not factory calibration changes. The only thing it is designed to do is stop the aftermarket programmers

What is high idle and exactly what is the latest flash??

Thanks for the response, I bought this truck and shortly thereafter had the latest flash reprogramed. I have not heard about the "high idle" deal. This truck has been recalled 2 times due to antifreeze leaking due to egr valve, it sat waiting on parts with them on national backorder around 15 days both times. Now I just got it back from the garage and the charge light is on and the see dealer light or whatever its name is. The water pump with labor cost me $600 not including the towing or truck rental I did not have to pay for due to doing it myself and having a spare truck. Now I still dont have a driving 6. 7 after the water pump job and I loaded it on a trailer to take to the Dodge Dealer in Corpus Christi, Texas, Lithia Dodge i think it is. I called them and talked to service manager to see who has my records since my dealer was axed, he says I have a wiring recall in the dash as well that needs to be worked on. While I was loading up my truck i noticed my old water pump in the back of the truckbed, it was full of rust behind the water pump impeller???? It almost looks light scale???? What could be causing this rust???? I wonder if the block sat around somewere and got rusty somehow?? I have never had any outside water or antifreeze added as the truck has been in the shop 3 times and the antifreze was completely exchanged out every time. Will update my experience with the lemon as soon as it gets home from Lithia Dodge in Corpus. What bothers me still with the 6. 7 is that 3 times this engine has gotten hot from faulty parts from Dodge, egr valve 2 times and the water pump one time, wonder how much my engine life is shortened by now??? I am not a truck abuser and regularly change out oil, filters, blow out rad and engine compartment with soapy water and have to drive this truck to the Dr's office 2 time a week. I dont trust it any more for sure. It does have the best a/c I have ever owned, too bad running it is killing it at the same time.

Because nobody had a 6.7 off to compare as not available??

confused why you cant put a thirty dollar checker auto pump on for a 5. 9

I asked on my 1th post if the the 5. 9 and 6. 7 engine water pumps interchanged, nobody knows or has said so far. My old water pump was 200 miles from me when it went out or I would have walked it down to the usual auto parts places to see if it was the same as the 5. 9 water pump. The same goes for the fan belts as well, they are not available from dodge and none of the parts stores had a application to get the crossovered. My old belt was destroyed and had no part number or enuff to get a measurement to see what size it was. I was also very afraid if this motor blew up before the 100,000 mile warranty ran out and I had a 5. 9 water pump that worked but was discovered as not factory if would be an excuse to void my warranty. I think this engine is going to fail on me due to the 3 overheats from the 2 egr antifreeze leaks and the water pump going out way way to early plus the regeneration constantly and reflashes it has had all before 10,000 miles except for the water pump which just happened. This truck engine was not tested enuff in south texas conditions as far as I am concerned!!!!! By the way, this same truck has another defect in it that almost killed my and my wife, seems when this truck is driven on a muddy road with holes that the tailpipe can dip into the over heated tailpipe will almost close with mud and make the fumes come into the cab and cause an regeneration and increase in motor tempature. Now I carry a tire iron to tap the tailpipe everytime I get to the last ranch gate to break up the mud inside the tailpipe and around it. This has happned 4 times during the last rainly spell, beware if you drive your truck in the mud and watch the tailpipe so it does not clog up and kill you, I had a hella headache and was sick at the stomach and actaully stopped at a gas station to get fresh air when i happened to look at the tailpipe to see why the heat against my bluejeans was really really extra hot. As soon as i beat the mud off the outside and the inside of the tailpipe the truck ran cooler and we were not sick. I am going to show the pictures i snapped to the service manager when i tow the lemon in tormorrow or Tuesday to see if there is a tailpipe recall or needs to be one. :)

just a note if the tabs and mounting bosses interchanged they could carry the same part number but it is doubtful i know the 09 water pump is different as they changed some fittings according to the TDR pic a few issues back

Call any dealer parts guy and ask them i like the small town guys better than any city dealership at least they are not so busy and can answer questions .

LMAO!!!!! Another recall, maybe week we can look at it!

Well, got brave and drove the lemon to Lithia Dodge in Corpus Christi , Texas!!! Told the service manager my sob story about the water pump, charging light on and see dealer light, high dipstick, poor milage etc, etc. He got a scanner and it showed crankshaft positioner failure, 2 or 3 more problems and I got the truck set up to have all the diffs, t/c and 5 speed oil changed out so not to void the factory warranty, I had to also sign off on the 2 recalls it needed including the newest one, something with the steering linkage!!!!lol That was the good news too guys!!!! The bad news is they are so full of broken trucks from all of axed dealerships coming it to the only Dodge dealer left there is a 9 day wait to get the truck worked on!!!! The parking lot is full of all kinds of trucks cars all waiting on parts or mechanics or bays to work on and in!!! Why did they not hire some if not all of the truck mechanics that were axed to cover us all during the change over I will never know. I asked about the high idle and newest flash update and was told that he had heard about that but had not looked into it lately, but promised he would ask the tech to get the latest flash and set it up for high idle so i can run the a/c more with out clogging up. very nice guy and apoligized over and over for the backed service department. He said my truck was one of the first 6. 7's and would be a good truck when it was all debugged. I asked him when would it be debugged!!! LOL I just laffed and said do the best you can send in the pictures of the tailpipe clogging up out at my ranch before somebody is killed from the mud turning into a shutoff valve as almost happened to us. !!! He was genuine and I trusted him and hope my truck gets fixed soon and who knows it might be debugged!!!

that would be the H30 Recall maybe for 4x4 trucks been to the corpus dealership when looking to buy my first truck and requested a puchase bid and the guy said it would cost a benjamin to get it . wrong, i got info and walked out never to come back .

i like my little dealership in la grange tx at least they give me a loaner when i call to tell them i mbringing it for service and they are honest . it is a father son deal going on there and they are a good team .

lithia dodge no respect for there lack of help and or diesel service techs they could hire some more help huh, there procedures in a depressed economic market in corpus are something to be desired.

Did you think about going or calling the Aransas pass TX dealership for service?

Henderson Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep Inc located in Aransas Pass, you may call them at (361)758-7900. the wait might be shorter?

Dear Friend, alas, in my area Dodge Trucks were king, now since the dealerships have all been closed we are all orphans, i as well did not buy from this dealership due to weirdo salemen as you mentioned telling me no single wheel trucks were available at the time I needed a new truck, I was driving by 5 dealerships on the way to work and was looking at inventory as going by, I bought at a small town dealer now closed who had several single wheel diesels with 6 speed standard trannys. I figure my lemon would have been a sweet peach if I would have bought a dually for less money too that had the 5. 9 engine still available, I never dreamed that they lose all the standings with such a unproven and untested engine as the 6. 7 has been. I paid for a good product that should have run every day with no recall, no reflashes or no parts shortage etc etc. I have been cheated on availability of this truck and have had to have it towed or hauled at my expense 4 times and almost killed due to the tailpipe plugup defect aka tailpipe looking up like a mud shovel!!!!LOL How many recalls trigger a lemon law recall anyway guys, I lost over 30 days downtime with this lemon so far??? Oh well, I am praying the Dealer can get this lemon turned into a peach with this last breakdown!!! Crossing fingers and saying a Hail mary!!!!!lol All one can do is laugh and have a postive attitude or this lemon will turn one bitter!!!!!:-laf

Forgot to mention that Aransas Pass Dodge was axed as well, I think there were 5 small dealerships killed in a 100 mile radias of my ranch down at Woodsboro Texas. I got a call on my answering machine from Lithia Dodge telling me that some sensor was ruined when the water pump went out and it is on national backorder!!!! LOL, Oh well, I really did not want to go to Port Aransas on the 4 of July anyway right??lol My duallys can not go 30 feet on the beach without getting stuck with all the loose sand right now!!!

Lithia Corpus called truck is ready!!! lol here we go!

Got a phone call today Monday at 2am down at my ranch at Woodsboro Texas from the Dealer saying my truck is ready. Kinda worried that it is a mistake as of Friday there were no senseor's available to my dealer to fix the truck??? Anyway will not look a gift horse in the mouth for sure!! i am taking my laptop with my wireless card with me to the dealership so I can show them what the flash sticker looks like and to make sure the tech has installed the latest flash for my truck. . Thanks to this forum I have found that I am not the only one confused and disapointed with the 6. 7 performance so far, I am only going to run out to 100,000 miles for the warranty and then delete all of this non performing junk and add Edge and a big pipe and air cleaner like I have on my other 3 5. 9 equippted truck which are a joy to drive I might add, especially the 2001 dually 4x4 with the Kenerman airride on all four corners!!! It is a crying shame one has to add wider tires, fender flares, front and rear bumpers and a winch to a truck that should have all ready had them from the factory. If anyone is reading this who drive a 6. 7 in the mud beware the brick making tailpipe that almost killed my wife and me on the way to San Antonio, if mud drips from the bed down to the tailpipe the extreme heat of the 6. 7 exhaust cooks the mud before it falls away and will make your truck run hot and really heat up and get fumes into the cab!! Will report what has happned to the Lemon when I get behind the wheel on the drive home tormorrow!!! Thanks for this site and all of the good peeps on here!!!

6.7 and dodge dealers still let me down!!

Got my truck back, had to get get sensor since when the water pump went out, $400 bucks for parts and labor i had to pay!! Anyway, the story goes that the tech checked and told the service advisor I had the latest update and bla bla bla,. Now the truck temp guage stays on 205 200 range and the throttle seems stickly and the truck still is boggy at times from a stop seeminly at random. I am going to try another dealership and ask them to get the latest flash installed, I think as i understand it, it should be the as flash???? Anyways, I hate this lemon and the sorry suport dodge has for it down in south texas right now, this truck has had almost 45 days out of servce due to recalls and shortage of parts, and still has the oil change light coming on right after a $500 dealer all fluids, fliters, grease job oil change etc from Dodge. I still have a truck I dont trust with all the overheats due to water pump going out or the high dipsticks from the regen. This engine should not have been released to the public as it is still a lemon if one works the truck on a ranch or oilfeild or welding location offroad. I am alread looking at Fords and Chevy truck as at least we have a dealership here and no 200 mile trips to hear from the Dodge dealer I dont know about flash updates for your truck but i will ask the tech we have!!LMAO My truck has no dealer ecm flash sticker by the way, I looked at the one here and I have nada. Why do I have to do Dodges job and subscribe to this forum to beg for help??? Dodge should have recalled this truck engine and replaced it with something else or furnished me a another truck, I paid cash by the way and still have this lemon to contend with that still I suspect is not flashed correctly and now seems to be running slightly hot?? Where does youe temp guage run with the a/c on and at 70 mph?? Mines 200 205 and getting about 12 miles per gallon unloaded with stock everything six speed and emptly bed too?? Thanks for all and any advice and comments. I have 63,999 miiles on this truck, does dodge owe me under the 100,000 waranty where I had to get outside waterpump and belt replacment or is the pump on me as well as the sensor replacement(dodge dealer)??? I think I need to call a regional service director or start somekind of lemon law process. It should not be this hard to get this engne set up right, figure it out, its still screwed up after 66,999 miles and dodge has not tried to fix it correctly.

my 08 runs at the 190+ 200 a little over 200 sometimes also, abient temp in austin is about 105 +110 /120 on the pavement:)

South texas temps somewhere between hell and hotter

cylinder perfomance test would reveal any additional abnormalities

dealer should have ordered sticker at no cost to them and installed for you and what "current " flash did dealer tech specifiically say was installed?

just to make sure you were happy with the procedures that were completed

i make them write everything down on my service order for my dealer truck service logs to document everything on paper with chrysler

I dont like a half *** job on any of my equipment any more than any other owner especially with the costs of these vehicles.

My brother jsut retired as a aircraft mechanic for Fed Ex.

He tells me teh mules that move the aircraft around have had

6. 7s in them and run at 2000 rpm day and night and are

fantastic runners. Apparently the motor is not the problem.

I have a 08 6. 7 and 16500 miles on it. Been a good truck so far

I have pulled a 14500 lb 5ver for 90% of the time. I do not

idle it excessively though. I do have the high idle option and use it

when ever I hook up the 5ver.

Hope you have a better experience in the future.
