Well... ... .

Seems as though my days of blasting through the desert are behind. I turn Fiddy (50) this Sept. My kids say I need to try Dual Sporting.

I just fell in love with this thing... .

Will do.....

Im leaving for Wa St early thursday morning to break it in. I plan on riding it in and around Mount Vernon Wa, Bellingham,Everson,Ferndale, and Lynden.

I might even take it to Winthrop via Hwy 20 (No. Cascades).

I have been ridding a KTM Duke since 1995. If your butt can handle it, you can do just about anything on the bike. I've done cross-country road trips, cross-state dirt road adventures, a little road racing, commuting, and even some mild motocross. Have fun with yours.

Wave if you see a white 06 pulling a Wildcat TT going north on 5. We should be rolling through that area on Saturday. Have fun with you new bike!Oo.

Is that factory street legal?

Yup,street legal it has two mirrors (not shown) and a catalytic conv, which I replaced with the FMF stinger.

I had to Remap the ECM due to it being fuel injected. It has a closed loop EFI system just like a modern day car, complete with fuel pump,O2 sensor etc. It also has a power adjustment knob under the seat 1-10 which controls power and fuel economy.

With the pipe shes turning out around 70 HP on level 2. I replaced the knobs with the Pirelli Scorpion AT's for more street riding. I plan on mounting the knobs again this fall.

The fkn thing wheelies just by rooling on the throttle in 3rd it's crazy:eek:. (driving record in jeopardy).

I have a stop to make in Oregon on the way (Gold Beach). Ill be on I-5 early Monday morning trying to dodge the Portland/Seattle traffic. I will be pulling the Haulmark this trip.

Sweet bike.

Taking my KTM 525SX to Colorado next week (Ouray/Telluride) for some trail riding. Actually takling 2 in the back of the Dodge. It's about 25 hours straight thru from Ohio. I made mine street legal for about $400 in lights,horn/mirror.

I'd like to try one of those. What's the approximate dry weight?

Cool.....

Id like to ride there sometime. Been through there several time camping only. I'm not sure I'll be using this thing on any tight single track though, it's heavy 340 with fuel.

Id have to use the 450 probably. The KTM seems very suitable for the HWY and some fast dirt roading. Check out the link below Thats what im talking about:eek:

Thats cool! I dual sported an XR400 for a few years and then went to a Husky. Trouble with the Husky is its not much good above 50 though it has seen 80

Yours would be real nice for the stretched out dual sports I have seen around here. Don't sweat the 340lbs, you can't really call that heavy at 70hp!

Nice Husky Matt... .

Update: I took it on a 50 mile loop down along Huntington Beach, and Newport today riding with some friends on sportbikes.

Unless your above 65 dont even think about 6th gear she boggs pretty good. I did however give it a quick run through the gears to 80 next to my friends R1 real smooth with the Scorpions.

I can see where you could hit well in to the triple digits as advertised.

The wife busted me leaving the house doing a stander with the bros#@$%!.

Good lookin bike. My next off road bike will be a KTM - 250 2 stroke with e-start though. 50? Heck, I was in an enduro the day after my 40th birthday last weekend and a guy on minute 1 was 85! I trail ride with a bunch of guys in their 50's and 60's too - tight single track in the woods.

Thanks Steve.....

Being 50 is cool it's just that all the years of off road racing in the 70's and 80's has left it's toll on my bones... ... .

I still mix it up on the single track in the Piutes near my home in Kern Co Ca. I use a YZF 450 for those runs though. The KTM 2 strokes are the sht for tight single track.

I am in Oregon on my way to NW Wa St to break in the 690, and to do some trial runs for fuel distance etc. I plan on using the 690 primarily for Dual sporting.

Let's here it for the dual sports! My Yamaha TW rocks! Glad to see I'm not the only "unorthodox" (as I've been called by by cruiser brethren) biker out there. The motorcycle club I'm in wasn't gonna let me join! Jealous shmucks! She may not be the fastest bike around, but she'll go ANYWHERE and take any abuse I can dish out. Dropped her once. No damage or even a scratch - not the case for me, though!

Im Here!!!!

Well Im here at my in laws in NW Wa. I will be heading over to Winthrop in the morning.....

Should be around 250 miles round trip. The big question is if the katoom will go 150 miles on 3. 2 Gal of fuel. We will see:rolleyes:

Im taking Hwy 20 (No Cascades hwy) I will post pics when I get back.....

When commuting, I usually got 58-62mpg. But my bike is 609cc with an Edlbrock carburetor vs. your 654cc FI model. I think the fuel mileage would be pretty close and you should be able to go at least 150 miles/tank.
