Shooting at Fort Hood

Fort Hood shooter identified as Army Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan; 12 dead, 31 wounded | rgj.com | The Reno Gazette-Journal

12 dead, over 30 injured. One shooter dead, 2 others arrested. My thoughts and prayers to the dead, injured, and families. What a tragedy.

I'll let the political part that will surely come up, come up in the Politics forum.

We have a family member and her husband stationed there and we called to check up on them and they are ok. Sounds like things are shaken up there though.

The base commander just said that the shooter (Maj. Hasan) is still alive, with multiple gunshot wounds, & will most likely survive. He is out of surgery & stable.



The female, civilian police officer, who shot Maj. Hasan, was shot also & is out of surgery, stable & will probably survive (Thank God, for that).



The news media is amazing at putting out information. Whether the information is correct, or not, does not seem to matter!!! As long as they have a 'story' &, any 'story' will do!!!



My thoughts & prayers go out to the dead & injured, their families & friends. You would think that our Military could, at least, feel safe on their 'home' base.

About 1530 today, the Houston ABC affiliate cut away from its regular programming to report on the shootings at Ft. Hood. Shortly thereafter, they announced that Obama was going to make a statement regarding the massacre, and went to a "tribal affairs conference" being conducted by the Secretary of the Interior.



Obama came in and began speaking jovially to the conference participants, thanking them for their attendance and work on behalf of the "Indians". He then thanked Ken Salazar for his work in putting on the conference, and recognized others in attendance.



About the time the reporter stated that they would come back to coverage of the President IF he got around to speaking regarding the shootings, he finally addressed the matter.



I guess the murders & wounding of our soldiers & their family members & support staff comes fourth or fifth in priority to our Commander in Chief. I guess it's what I should expect from a liberal Muslim Democrat (but I repeat myself).

The news is reporting that Hasan was yelling "Allahu Akbar!"... . aka: God is Great!!



Gee... and I'm supposed to embrace Islam. NEVER!!!!!!!!!



When I first heard this news... I suspected what we'd find in terms of who did it. When the radical faith of terrorists (and thats what I'm calling this guy) falls below 100% Muslim... then I'll start profiling. Because until it falls below 100%... its not profiling. Its a fact.



Yesterday during the lock down... the government controlled news was saying "The FBI is on the way and have ruled out an act of terrorism because it was an Army person who did it". How could they know? They aren't even there yet. And wouldn't you have to do an investigation? Now they aren't so sure what this guys ties were.

First, the shooter was dead. Now he's alive. If that fact doesn't come out straight the first (or maybe second) time, I have a hard time believing whatever will come out from here on out. It also *appears* that the other two who were in custody are now released and were not part of event. And frankly, I don't care what the FBI or military calls this. It was an act of terror.

What was he supposed to do? This is a big country and I am sure the President gets news about disasters around the world numerous times a day. If he dropped everything and focused on one issue he would run around in circles all day and not get anything done. Granted this was on our soil and on one of our Army bases but he cannot lose the big picture no matter what happens.



When we hammer the man for everything, it makes us all look like a bunch of radicals looking for him to fail. I do not want our President to fail, I do want his crazy policies to stop. We have to be reasonable to make that happen. The Democrats look for things like this to reprint and make us all sound like a bunch of radical nuts.



This is my opinion and by no means do I mean to put the post down. What happened at Fort Hood is a sign of the times. This idea that we can do anything in the name of our god has got to stop. The Muslim world needs to fix this soon or I fear we will have to, which will mean a lot more bloodshed.

I live close enough to Ft. Hood that I heard the alarms over the loudspeakers. I spent about 15 of my 27 years in the Army at Ft. Hood. This guy is not the first traitor or coward to have entered military service. He is the first to have taken as many lives as were lost. He has certainly given credibility to the practice of profiling muslims as terrorists. I hope he lives a long miserable life locked up at Leavenworth.

Simple. If he had to appear at the conference at all, rather than letting his emissary handle it, he should have soberly walked in, made his announcement, asked for prayers, & left. He should NOT have given a "shout-out" (HIS words!) and acted jovially.



The loss of so many of those who sacrifice daily to protect us should have been his top priority. Period.

Who gives a damn about the disasters of the rest of the world??? There comes a point where the President is supposed to give a crap about the soil here in the USA!! That's Obama's problem... he could care less about this country. And as far as he's concerned... the USA is the disaster around the world and he goes all around the world telling everyone how terrible of a country this is. He's giving all that news.



This is no different than the terrorist muslim soldier who went around throwing hand grenades into tents on the base in Iraq. Radical muslim who was supposedly already being watched by the FBI. If he's in a coma like they say... as soon as he wakes up... hang him for high treason.



This guy had a higher rank than 95% of all soldiers. He's a well paid, well trained doctor. Its not post traumatic stress disorder!!!!!!!!!! He never saw combat!!!! Why do the libs keep lying about what is really going on around here???

The Trojan Horse story always comes to mind. I remember reading a story that true Muslim can't be friends with Christians, Christians are the infidel and must be killed. Christians are the true enemy of Islam. Now, IF that is true does that mean that every Muslim follower in this country is a threat? Don't get me wrong I agree with everything you say here, my point is not in support of Obama by any means. The Muslims are a true threat and it is my firm belief that Obama is one of them. My point is that we have to be careful when we do criticize him that we do not look like we are throwing logs on the fire in the hopes of his failure. We have to look at everything. What would we have said if he dropped everything and just concentrated on this. We would have said he can only do one thing at a time, how can he keep the big picture. We can't make it sound like we want him to fail or we look just like the left say we look. Just my thoughts, nothing personal.

Our forces are made up of civilian and military. Critical wartime jobs here at home are performed by our civilian members so that military members can do them in theater. Cops are an extremely high demand/high deployment job leaving gaps here at home that must be filled.

Does it matter that she was civilian or military? She shot the guy. She put her life on the line, dropped the nutcase and took a bullet to protect soldiers. At that point her military status is irrelevant.

Unlike the movies, the military doesn't walk around fully armed while on U. S. soil. For one reason or another a pair of Killeen police officers happened to be in the area.

Good point; I guess the army base shooting could have turned out to be an organized terrorist plot and not just another crazy Muslim.



Good point on why a civilian cop had to take him down instead of a soldier. We are living in a crazy world; it is to the point where even in a situation like this the liberals will find fault and try to prosecute a person for taking him down. It would end up being the fault of the army for not letting him express his Muslim views that "made" him do it. The soldier who shot him would be even more proof to them that the soldiers are the kill happy freaks.

GAmes- it wasn't a Killeen officer who shot the Muslim. The Army has hired civilians to be cops on many bases. She was one of these.

The liberal media today had some folks saying we needed to investigate to make sure that it wasn't a case of a truely insane person versus a legitimate terrorist. I didn't know there was a difference. I mean... were the ones who flew the planes into the twin towers sane? Not by any standard I can find. And this isnt about the Islamic faith or being Muslim which is a peaceful faith. We are talking about Radical Jihadists. So what are Christians supposed to do? Become Crusaders again?



The media said the Army didn't do anything about him prior for fear of not being politically correct. THAT is wants insane.
