Ford 6.0 info

I know we're focused on the engine compartment, but I have to say that interior looks hideous. I assume that's just the work truck interior?

I'd be curious what the Ford enthusiasts think about this design.

Why is "SUPER DUTY" written all over the truck? Does the truck have an identity crisis?

I know that was one of my turn-offs when I was looking for a new pick-up in 08. That and I could not see the engine at all on the 08's. I guess this is just a marketing feature for all new Ford trucks. You can not find the engine, therefor the dealer can tell you what ever engine is in the truck from a gas to diesel. You have no way to prove him wrong, you can not find the engine.

Just my $0. 02

Thank you! I've been saying that for a couple years now! Fer Pete's sake, we get it, it's a SUPER DUTY!

Windshield, both side badges, passenger side interior, front grille, and tailgate.

And while we're ranting, what the heck does "super duty" mean anyway? I mean, it's supposed to be heavier than heavy duty? Or by "super" do they mean "fabulous"? Now there's an idea - instead of "SUPER DUTY" imagine the whole truck festooned with "FABULOUS DUTY" badges!

Tomscreek... you got it 100%. Eventually the new pickup will be unrecognizable... undrivable... unmaintainable... unaffordable. Wages and jobs keep going down... and the prices on these things are through the atmosphere. Mid 50's for basically any new Ford (or any) diesel thats not a cab/chassis white 2WD.

Soon... they will cost as much as new Class7/8 trucks.

You're not far off. When I had my tool rental business, I bought a new IH 4300 with a DT466, Allison 2400, and a Holmes steel body set up for moving equipment, not towing. It was an early 2002, it cost 53K, and could carry my PU.

Yes I have. They seem excited.

How do you tell a FORD guy is excited?

He cranks up his POWERSTROKE :D

very true. looked at a new [09] duramax about a week ago. couldnt believe they wanted 60k on the sticker. in a way the trucks was nice, but at the same time looked plain as compared to the fords and doges i've peeked at. same ford or dodge was a good 3 to 4k cheaper. these things are running half of what a fairly nice new home cost!

OK... any news yet?. . they should be rigged out and being used by now... Were they both going to be mechanic trucks or was one goiing to be a crew truck?... .

The 2011 Ford 6. 7 is butt ugly, inside and outside. Under the hood looks like a nightmare.

I'm glad I have a Dodge!

Ryan, "FABULOUS DUTY" sounds too sissy. SUPER DUTY is suppose to mean the ultimate duty, I guess.

Call it whatever you want, but Ford better hope that the third time is the charm, or Dodge is going to own the 4500-5500 market, espescially now that GM has abandoned that segment. I think they'll make inroads regardless of how the new Scorpion turns out.

Yea theyre both being driven. Atleast the 350 is driven primarily in ton or on the highway. I know when he goes on a job, he takes his 6. 0 POS instead of the new one. Maybe thats a stipulation of the evaluation program; Fords worried it may fall apart??

The 450 I rarely see. But it usually looks pretty clean when its in the yard

Need to get one of them requisitioned to Texas..... Let it spend some time idling on location for hours at a time, then get driven 70 mph down dirt/rock lease roads... etc. .

I agree the engine compartment looks like a nightmare. I'd also bet that Ford has the engine computer locked up tight to ensure compliance with the emissions rules. At least with ours we can dump the EGR/DPF stuff fairly easily if desired. I doubt there's any way to get around the emissions systems on the new Ford. They've already programmed it to not start if you don't fill it up with Urea.

Its easy to delete the Fords. Spartan diesel already has tuning ready for the 6. 7. All Id have to do is call them up and get a tuner from them and straight pipe these company trucks; no codes. No problems. Well one problem, actually 2. They are company trucks, and I dont have 2k+ for the deletes

Lets look at the bright side. The new hood design has the wrap around edges which substantially add strength to the thinner sheet metal. The last hood style was reminiscent of the 70s chevy hood design that had the "fold in the middle" bonus feature.

The shop techs are probably the ones who will truly value this feature... . as they are raising the hood to Fix Or Repair Daily. Hmmm... maybe SUPER DUTY is really an acronym for something. Any suggestions? Or a contest perhaps?

Actually, the tech is probably thinking "Ka Ching" when he opens the hood on one of these babies.
