Can someone measure one from the door to the outside of the mirror in tow configuration? I have the CIPA add-on mirror that is too short and want to make sure these stick out further. Thanks

In the flipped out position the inside part of the mirror is 12" from the door, and the outside part of the mirror is as 20" from the door. BTW this place has them in stock again:

Dodge Pickup Mirror - Side View at 1AAuto.com

They are at the bottom of the page.

Just ordered mine from the link above. $240 shipped per pair. Reinforcement plates from my local dealer on the other hand were $19. 95 each plus tax. ouch. I guess if you aren't selling vehicles you gotta make up for it somewhere. Can't wait to get them on. Been wondering what the side of my toyhauler looks like going down the road. lol

What are the part #'s for the plates?

Just tried installing the first mirror. Got the passenger side on and plugged it in and found out the mirror drive was broken. It would only adjust one direction. Other direction you could move freely by hand. #@$%!
I hate it when this happens. I have such limited time to do things these days.

The good news is that when I called 1AAuto, they agreed to ship me 2 new mirrors and told me to just send them back the others when I recieve my new ones with shipping on their dime. They claim to have excellent customer service and so far I am not disappointed.

Just as an FYI (and with no intent to insult your intelligence). Are you sure you didn't pinch the wiring when mounting the mirrors? I had to cut a groove in the interior support to avoid this issue when I installed mine. They claim there is a spot for routing the wire, but try as I might, I was not able to get them to work without the cut. I don't have a picture unfortunately, but I have one that might work that is from a different forum.

I have installed four or five sets of these mirrors and have not had any issues other than the initial crimped wire. Good luck.

No offense taken. That was the first thing I noticed and I still had a link to a page someone put together about installation of these mirrors here.

Dodge Ram - Towing Mirror Upgrade Information- '94 to '06

I re-routed the wire and was pretty sure that I had it in a place where it would not get pinched but I decided, before I tightened anything, to plug it in and check it. That is when I discovered the problem. It is mechanical, not electrical. It tried to move. When I lightly pushed my fingers on the mirror the axis that was not working moved easily as if it wasn't attached to anything. I could tell something was wrong with it. Other side feels like it should. I pulled the mirror back off I could tell the wires had not been pinched.

I went back and completely read the page for the link above and noticed the info about notching the area between the screws to avoid pinching the wires.

With the new set, I will be removing some plastic to assure no pinching this time. Better safe than sorry though. Too bad they don't make them right to start with.

Nice link, I'll have to remember that one. Also be aware that the bracing is not plastic as one might think, but aluminum. It took me longer to notch than I was first expecting. Good luck!

Thanks,
That is good to know, I'll break out the carbide burr for that one.

Question for Mishkaya, will these mirrors fit on the 96' Dodge body style? They look to be the same but mounting points can change without a body change. I would really like to install this version of a towing mirror on my truck. Larry.

Thank you NW Jim, this is the information that I needed. You have been a great help. Larry.

Kool View Tow Mirror Issues

Had the same issue when I installed mine on a 2000 3500 over a year ago. I cut reliefs to keep the wires from being pinched. Still had an issue with one mirror as it would adjust in only one direction. It appears the drive mechanisim was popped out. I moved the mirror with my hand to the extents until I felt it pop in and have not had any issues since. I have had 2 other brands and these by far work the best and allow the best viewing and stock appearence. I had the support plates already that came with the first set of aftermarket mirrors I tried. I Purchased these from Autopartswholesale.com and had to return 2 right hand units as the glass came shipped broken, third time was the charm. They did not even ask me to return the broken units, so I have 2 Brand new RH units with busted glass.

Got the second pair already. These guys are great. This pair feels right as far as the mechanisms go. Hopefully start again tomorrow on the install. Goin boatin on New Years Day so gotta get the mirrors on by then.

i joined your club this past week - full power and heated mirrors! Installation was a breeze since I already had the tow mirrors and was wired for the new ones. I had no trouble with the wires as the new ones had a groove cut for them. Paid $240 shipped to my door. Kool Vue brand bought from an ebay vendor.

I am going to be doing this conversion on my 97 with factory power mirrors and have a a few questions.

How can I utilitze the heated option on the new mirrors, just run a switched hot through a relay to that pin on the new pigtail?

Is the mirror powered to flip up (towing position) and down (normal position) also, or is that manual? If it is powered will my factory joystick work?

Thanks
Chris

You can hook up the heated portion of the mirrors if you didn't already have that option, although I am not quite sure on which wires are used...

The flip up and down part is done manually. Your factory joystick should work for the mirrors as well.
