You can hook up the heated portion of the mirrors if you didn't already have that option, although I am not quite sure on which wires are used...

The flip up and down part is done manually. Your factory joystick should work for the mirrors as well.

Thanks for the info, but how do I hook up the heated function safely? Wasn't an option on my 97 (I don't think) so how have guys done this in the past? Or do they just not take advantage of it. I read through the previous 18 pages and didn't see any clues. The later trucks seem to have the wiring provisions in the main HVAC harnes so its just a matter of plugging into that.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Chris

Do you have heated and power mirrors now? If so it is very easry to do. just sum trial ans error before you hook up the conection.
I am going to be doing this conversion on my 97 with factory power mirrors and have a a few questions.

How can I utilitze the heated option on the new mirrors, just run a switched hot through a relay to that pin on the new pigtail?

Is the mirror powered to flip up (towing position) and down (normal position) also, or is that manual? If it is powered will my factory joystick work?

Thanks

Chris

Not the brightest seller

I don't know if you guys noticed, but that same ebay seller that is offering those mirrors for $240 per pair ALSO has them on sale for $112 each (free shipping in both cases)! :-laf

And to top it off, they require "immediate Paypal payment" for each purchase. That means you can save $16 on a pair by buying them individually, yet the seller will pay EXTRA to paypal for the 2 separate transactions. Talk about not quite thinking things through...

Hello Chris,

I looked at eh wiring for my 96 Dodge and the wires do not exsist for the heated portion of the mirror. I recommend that you purchase a lighted rocker or toggle switch, a 12 volt relay rated at 15 amp, a 10 amp circuit breaker and wire the mirrors to a hot spot in the power distribution center (fuse block in the engine compartment) not relegated to any other item. You could if possible use a fused terminal in the power distribution block by installing the contact for the fuse in a blank hole that you scavanged from another fuse block at the auto recycling yard. Either way it is advisable to protect the wiring and your truck with a fuse or circuit breaker and wire capable of handling the load. The pins designated for the mirror control functions are 1,2,and 3. Larry.

The heat portion is easy, as Lawrence says. Two wires, a fuse, and a switch.

Make sure you use a switched (ignition "ON") electrical source so you don't burn up the elements or drain your batteries up by leaving them on.

I am going to have one of our truck mechanics show me an uninstalled heated mirror switch from one of our Volvo semis. They have a built-in timer feature. At least, I think it is built into the switch. If so, that is the type of switch I want.

Oh, and use a lighted switch or indicator light, too.

Thanks guys. That's the line of thinking I had in mind, but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a factory tie-in point somewhere. A switch with a timer would be great, makes it fool-proof (me playing the part of the fool).

Wow... What a find. I took my heated/powered mirrors off 8 years ago and put on the Tow mirrors. Been wishing for a compromise ever since. Found my answer today in this thread. Plus its an easy plug and play for me since I already got the wiring.

Don't know, I dislike ebay with a passion. But I have been getting them from A1 auto for $240 shipped, for the set of power heated. Their service is great!

Anybody having problems with the heated part of the mirror blowing the fuse? The powered part of the mirrors is working great. I happened to push the heater button on the dash and it blew the fuse. Replace, repeated with same result.

Chris,

How old are your mirrors? I haven't installed mine yet, but I am wondering if you don't have a pinched/shorted wire. There was some mention earlier in this post of enlarging the spot where the wiring goes through the door.

Just got the mirrors in a few days ago so pretty much brand new. Guess I should go check the obvious and make sure wiring is ok. My holes are big so no issues with clearance. Pretty sure wires are ok but makes as much sense as anything.

Which fuse does it blow?
