I've just picked up my new truck (in signature). Previous owner was running the TNT tune. I kept the smarty I was running on the old truck which has the Revo tune. Drove the truck home with TNT sw9. Very fast very smokey and very responsive. Based on reading various posts regarding less smoke, I switched to the Revo sw3 TQ-2 RP-2 TM-0. I am not very clear on what "timing" actually is. Basic understanding is that is when the fuel is injected into the cylinders? So more fuel with the DDP 90s would be advancing/extending the "timing"? Does this increase egt due to more fuel? I am looking for a good mid level tune with very little smoke. I never ran more than sw3 on the old truck because I did not have gauges or a transmission that could take it. Thanks TDR I have learned a lot here and am learning more.

With your transmission upgrades, you could up the tm to 1 for a little quicker fueling. I leave my rp on stock as I don't have extra filtration. Added timing enables the engine to run with lower egt's. The tradeoff is a little more smoke. When the time comes, you may have to register that truck in Mendocino Co. which is exempt. This site or the Dodge Cummins forum had a low mileage stock turbo for $300.

Hate to tell you this, but I think your going to have smoke at almost any setting. The 90hp injectors just dump a lot of fuel. I'm looking to do a cam this summer because even with the twins I cant dump enough air to clean it up.

The bigger injectors advance the timing by having larger hols and it takes less pressure to start injection, probably still not enough. Timing 4 is for aftermarket injectors in Smarty, try that and see what happens.

Boost your RP to 3 and see if that helps.

You will just have to play with tunes SW 3-7 to see what works well.

I will be getting an AD 150 soon and also installing the II cp3 kit that came with the truck. So from my reading aside from springs to safely run the high rpm I will have the supporting mods to run the TNT? Now I am only going to keep one of these Smarty boxs and we run a mac so I am not easily able to download the different tunes. Is the TNT safe to tow with on the lower settings? or just go to stock while towing? I really do not want a smokey truck and I will be playing with settings/tunes the next couple weeks. I do have the stock turbo and have the vital stock exhaust parts on the way. I will eventually have to smog this thing in Aug.

The TNT's lowest setting is 100+ rwhp. I'm happy with the Revo and I'm always carrying the camper around.

I am running REVO SW3 with TM=3, TQ-2, RP=1 with no smoke. I have 80hp injectors and the stock turbo with the CFM manifold.

TM0 = default which is for stock injectors.

With your DPP90's, try TM=3 which is for aftermarket injectors.

To help with the smoke, try the PSM cold air mod, it really helps the engine get more cold, dense air.

I can blackout an intersection if I floor it. Running psm, lower restriction muffler,Smarty torque management=1,timing=1,rp=1,2000# camper load,g-56,and 285 tires. If I drive for economy and mild acceleration smoke is minimal. I tried timing 2 but no difference in smoke. I'm using Revo sw#3. Great product. I've just got to watch the pedal.

I think that's the difference between a 03-04 and a 04. 5-06. I get a pretty good cloud of smoke to - not bad with timing 1 (stock), but the more the advance the more smoke. I also get a light trailing smoke until boost gets > 10 with higher timing settings.

If you have the PODs, backing down on the power percentage, even just a little, while significantly reduce smoke.

I've tried that too - set to 50 and still get the low boost smoke. There seems to be spot right between 0-7 lbs of boost where i get smoke even at light throttle. It all seems to be timing related as the light throttle smoke is gone at stock timing. I still can get a puff on takeoff if I put my foot into it, but it is much better than with the timing advanced.

I'm interested to see the answers to your questions. I run TNT on the lowest settings on my stock truck since it gives the least smoke out of all the softwares I've tried (non-POD).

I've been driving with Revo sw3 tq-1 tm-3 rp-1. Smoke is controlled but still there. Just to see what would happen, I floored it at a stop sign. Complete black out. boost built after a second or two and the truck took off with a full eclipse of the sun in the mirror. i can keep the smoke controlled to just a puff when driving around town. I find myself hitting the brakes on the freeway on ramps when merging. I loaded up sw6 with the same settings to take a buddy for a ride. Did some 2wd boosted launches roasting the tires, with very little black smoke. Boost seems to skyrocket really fast from 15-20 up to 40 and the truck is flying or tires are smoking. I am waiting to increase the rail until I get the AD system. Just going from the odo reading and the 3/4 tank, it seems like I am getting close mpg to the last truck. I will wait to run the numbers. I am wondering about a compound system using the stock turbo that I do have? I'll give the low TNT settings a go and see what happens.

Less smoke w/TNT.

Bryan Howell@Diesel Power Products has had the same experience. TNT tune produces the least smoke.

I put her back to stock for the morning drive. Felt like the old truck on Revo sw3 with the Bully Dog Torque Dog pressure stacked, similar smoke levels just a bit more. It just felt really slow after Revo sw6. So I am now trying TNT sw1 tq1 tm3 rp1. Smoke does seem less than the Revo sw3. I have the Air Dog coming soon, bump up the rp then.

Interesting about the TNT having less smoke than the REVO. I downloaded the most recent REVO version from MADS a few days ago and it seems to be a little better in the low boost smoke department. It's hard to really tell as it is cold and that seems to help reduce smoke too, but sure seems better. So far I can't find anyone to tell me what changed in the most recent version - readme says "TIMING ENHANCEMENTS" but gives no details. Maybe I'll try the TNT at some point... .

I re read the TNT info and realized that the aftermarket injector timing is different between Revo and TNT. Revo 3, TNT 2, TNT tm3 for really big injectors. I'll change to TNT tm2. That is a good point about ambient temps. The outside temp has been cooler the last couple days.

So far so good, smoke is totally controlled and the truck is pretty dam quick. I had tire smoke only this afternoon on a uphill sweeping on ramp. Still smokes if I just go straight down on the pedal, she is slow as well. Quicker and way less smoke if it is gentle then firmer on the pedal. Learning how to drive this truck. Last fill up was a horrible 12. 42mpg this was lots of playing and changing tunes and getting used to this truck. I'll leave her with this tune for a while, mellow out and see how we go.

15. 37mpg with mixed mostly normal driving. A couple high power bursts here and there but nothing fully wide open. It is pretty nice ripping onto an on ramp and knowing you have lots more to go.

Try the TNT sw1 tq2 tm3 rp2 Thats my setting and it smokes less than my old banks. I also have DDP 50hp injectors with a Garret BB turbo and the smoke is very minimal. whats up with the new Smarty revo update try that too.
