TKirby,

So now you say you have under 40000miles on the truck and "routinely get 23-24mpg"? With a dually? So after your engine is properly broke in, you could see close to 30mpg:)

Lucky guy.

Hey, I see you're in Austell, GA! I moved to PA from Lithia Springs back in 2002.

Yep! Moved in here in June of 2001. I've been in GA since 1997. I'm originally from LaPorte, IN (Near Gary). Came down to ride the construction wave... . it's hitting the beach now.

I'm glad you're getting such great mileage. I've been watching this thread. I bought a 2010 Mega-cab in February. I've got a little over 4,000 miles on it now. I'm getting about 14mpg. It's hard for me to keep it around 70 though. I usually end up setting the cruise at 80. I've got a pretty long commute right now until I finish this project. Then maybe to Chattanooga for a while. I need to drag a big trailer around for awhile and work the engine.

I will mention this though... my '02 got 15 mpg. I always hoped it would improve but it never did. I sold it with 110,000 miles and it still got 15mpg.

And before you guys chime in here and mock some of us who don't tow heavy everyday; I drove a gasser for the last 4 years and it got 11mpg. A Chevy 2500HD with 6. 0 (2wd ext cab/long bed) and a Ford 2500 5. 4L (2wd ext cab/long bed). I'm more than pleased with my current situation.

With my ford 6. 0 X asfter putting in the banks upgrade chip/ inter-cooler, exhuast and air box the mpg increase by 2 mpg over stock. My dodge is 10-12 towing and 14-16 driving.

I would need some other people to verify the claims of 20 plus mpg out of a drw. Would you please get it certified by one the accountting firms than have some really high end wrench turns go over your rig so we can get modify ours to get the same mpg or close to it.

Thank you

FWIW, I'm not just making up numbers here. The mileage goes down very significantly when pulling a load, but my empty numbers are always 20+ unless I drive it hard. Even pulling a loaded 3 horse trailer up a mountain on I-77 in WV I get 13mpg according to the display. Again, I was thinking of a buying a new SRW Dodge until I saw the mpg numbers posted here. At 20+mpg I was thinking I could use it as a daily driver for a 40+ mile round trip commute AND as a tow vehicle.

Never said that you were making anything up just trying to figure out how your truck is making those types of numbers and as you have seen most of us are in the 15-17 mpg range.

If we can figure out what is different about your setup maybe the rest of us can do the same mods and see if we can get the same benefit

I don't really care whether anyone believes it or not - I was just sharing data. It's not like I have an agenda to come here and lie. Even before I flashed my truck with the SuperChips module it would always get 19-20, now it gets 20+. Even today, with 40 bags of sawdust and 8 2x4s from a local Amish sawmill in the bed, the display was reading a steady 20. 6 on the way home (country roads, not interstate). I will try to locate the original window sticker and verify my gears, etc.

Only thing that was ever done to my truck was an early re-flash of the ECM due to a persistent CEL for fuel pressure that was apparently a false alarm (the CEL would come on when I would plug an Ipod into the aux port on the radio). I flashed with the Superchips module somewhere between 30K - 35K miles.

I meant no offence, I'm just jealous because my dually can't even come close to that kind of mileage. It is highly unusual for a dually to get that much mileage. It's even difficult for a single wheel to get that much mileage.

By the way, don't believe the overhead mileage computer. They're notorious for being very inaccurate.

My overhead display shows 25mpg. But the real one is a bit over 18 (mix city and highway). My display obviously lies a lot:)

I have an early 07. 5 6. 7L. It when new and for 10k it indicated around 11-12mpg. After the Smarty and 37k I show 17-19mpg. My overhead is 1mpg slow.

The only accurate way to calculate the mpg is from a full fill up to next full fill up. Filling to same spot after letting the fuel foam down and topping it off. The over head dispaly can be off by a huge amount and programmers can also throw off the overhead. The posts I've seen that say I constantly get this mpg on this trip etc etc seem to be from the operator watching the overhead and believing his tank average is the same mpg as the over head display. The overhead may read higher on light loads etc and is not a indication of you tank average from fill up to fill up. I have had several vehicles with electronic displays for mpg and none would match the hand calculated tank fill up to fill up average. The closest was a aftermarket Scan Gauge II after you used several tanks and the device was calibrated. Just my experience. I still have a hard time believing that a 4th gen 6. 7 with a dpf and regen cyles in a heavier dually 4x4 truck is posting mpg # s that are several mpg higher then 1st gen, 2500lb lighter, ve pump, stick pickup..... If a 2010 3500 srw g56 4x4 with 3. 42 gears either crew or mega cab would average 20mpg hand calculated fill up to fill up... there would be LOTS of new truck customers... every one I have heard of says that 13-17 mpg is realistic. 20-24mpg in the same vehicle would be unheard of and absolutely beautiful. Please post your trucks complete specs. trans, cab, gears, 4x4 -4x2?, tonnueu cover, cap, exhaust, stock or minus dpf, injectors etc etc.

Thanks,

Deo

Just to add in another 06's mileage, I get about 19-20 on the highway pretty easily, but I have to run between 65-70. I have an 06 with the G56 and 3. 73's, so I am a hair over 2K RPMS running up the road. Mine is a Megacab with stock size tires, and usually nothing in the bed. I haven't really seen much ground breaking mileage since I bought the truck new. I have 92K on it now, and it still runs perfect, but the mileage hasn't really changed more than 1-2 MPG's over the life of the truck. At first I tried everything to boost mileage and the only things where I saw any change were after pulling my toyhauler all over the Eastern Mountains, and ditching my muffler. Everything else helped with power/egt reductions but didn't do much for mileage. I think with 92K on the truck and a fair amount of pulling and hauling the truck is broke in. Fantasizing about numbers really isn't fair to the trucks until they have about 50K on them and even more if they haven't pulled. I don't think you can work these trucks hard enough empty to really break them in. Just my opinion though. Unless your truck is grossly under 15MPG you should have a decent chance at getting 18-20 by the time the rig is broke in. The new ones are nice, and if mine was due for a replacement, I wouldn't sweat the mileage too much, they get there, just need to work them, not abuse them, but good pulling and climbing with alot of weight.
