I believe the stratapore's are manf by Cummins. You would think that going with a filter thats made by a company that builds the engine it goes on would be a no brainer:rolleyes:.

Ive been running the 3894's first in my second gen and now in my third gen and have had no issues. Why would anyone want to change?.

I agree the amsoil filter looks cheesy:-laf

Mac:cool:

40% better filtration for starters...

I'd sure be interested in seeing REAL-life sampling tests that show beyond doubt that to be true - and from someone other than the filter maker... ;)

I'm fully in favor of the best quality filtration reasonably possible - but FACT based, not advertising hype based...

As an aside, I *am* using an Amsoil/Donaldson air filter element on my '02 - no complaints so far - but have yet to find any 3894 replacement I've seen actual data that proved was better...

Perhaps you can provide an acceptable test pointer?

For me a 10um better absolute rating on the filter is enough. Since SAE makes the standard, not the filter maker. . I go by the ratings.

Top Gun- that was pretty much tongue-in-cheek. As you read this post and others, I think you'll see that no matter the source of the data, there will be those who dispute it's veracity. The tendency seems to be the defending of one's choice of product over choice of another. Personally, in this case, I think that we're all in the region of overkill- Routine maintenance trumps hair splitting over microns.

I have the analysis reports backing up the differences. All I ran was Fleetguard LF16035 (Same filter as LF3894 but with flutes on the end. My first go around with Amsoil I used Fleetguard filters and changed them in the 7500+ miles range over 23,000 miles. In other words three filter changes using Amsoil AME 15w-40 over 23,000 miles. Analysis report came back saying the oil was fine for continued use. The two following oil changes I used Amsoil AME 15w-40 and Amsoil filter EaO80. Results came back that the oil was fine for continued use. In both scenarios above, the wear metals and contaminates were all in the same ballpark. What was different was my soot levels went from 1% using the Stratapore to <. 1% using the Amsoil filter. (Soot levels under 2% is the norm) The Stratapore's filter right on par with the Amsoil filter for wear metals and contaminates, but the Amsoil is better at soot removal. Wear metals are sub micron. So all in all I save money by using the one filter instead of three. Also remember, I have an 04 with the 305/555 engine, which is by far easier on the oil of all the 3rd Gen engines.

Fleetguard is a division of Cummins - that should be all you need to know. Buy the filter kits from Genos and save a few bucks.

I dont see where you think that buying from Genos is a SAVE??

The oil Filter
LF 16035 at Genos $13. 95
Cummins Dealer $12. 84
online $12. 75

recently went back to the thick air filter
Genos $28. 95
Napa dealer in town!! Napa Gold 9946 (same filter) $24. 55

and the Donaldson ELF oil filter I use is cheaper than Fleetguard in price

Then tack on the shipping  and you SAVE?????
