Max tire size on stock 2wd?

What size tires can i fit with out rubbing on a 2005 2500 2wd, stock suspension and auto trans? Looking at Michilin LTX/MS or BF Goodrich A/T.

I was on discount tires website and they had 265/70 17 as standard equipment. So what tire size is between 285 and 265 and still has alot of tire options to choice from?

Are you talking 285/70 or 285/75 R 17s? For height purposes, the 285/70 is 32. 7" tall, and slightly narrower than the 285/75, which is 33. 83" tall. I believe both will rub at full lock on the plastic inner liner. There is no size listed inbetween in an 8 or 10 ply tire in a 17" rim diameter. Try the 285/70 and just don't turn all the way... ...

What about with a leveling kit? Or are the 285 still too wide?

285/70-17's are less than an inch (0. 79") wider than your 265's, and just over and inch (1. 1") taller.

Depending on the kit, your front end load, and current spring sag, a 2. 5-3" leveling kit should give you enough clearance for the 285/70s. You'll still get some fender rub at incident angles, and maybe at full lock.
