I just wanted to hear from anyone who has wired up a GPS that monitors movement as well as the ignition (on\off). This GPS is for keeping tabs on where my workers are not a mapping GPS for the workers to use in the truck.

It's pretty simple I only have three wires to hook up- Hot (always hot), ground, and ignition (any source that hot when the ignition is keyed-radio, ignition wire, accessory fuse, ect). I'm going to whip out the multimeter this weekend and start testing potential spots for connections.

With the amount of business owners we have on here I figured someone may be one step ahead of me and has already learned the best and easiest way to hook one of these up.

The module on the left is the GPS and the round part on the right is the antenna.

It runs off satellites. This is a live GPS device so I can always tell where my crew is at any time of the day. For $18 a month and $180 for the hardware it's a small investment.

I would think that the round part is the GPS reciever ( i have a Garmin like that that plugs into my laptop}. The square thing would be the transmitter to get the info to you - over cell or satellite.

Nice Gps device. I am also working on Gps software and providing Gps tracking devices at affordable prices. If someone want to buy devices then can contact with me for detailed information about Gps.

Where did you get it? I've seen the Garmin ones that are about as big as a Bic lighter with an internal battery but I like the hardwire type.

I've seen that kind of thing used by service trucks so that they know where there units are at all times. Also help big time if your vehicle is stolen. If the boss uses it just to monitor his employees then he is either paranoid or the employee has given him a reason to not trust him.

My brother was on a trip one time, driving his daughter to college, and his wife was monitoring the trip from home.
She realized he had taken a wrong turn and phoned him and told him that short cut wouldn't work. Saved him a lot of time and gas. David

As an employee it really wouldn't bother me. It's just the way business in the future will be done and it's not anything personal.

Wouldn't bother me either, I would be where I was supposed to be. If I was not I would have already told the boss why.

I am watching this with a great deal of interest, considering it for my delivery trucks. It is not because I do not trust my driver salesmen, but it would be some kind of handy when I had spare drivers doing the routes. We could help them find the customers in the rural areas.

I am going to present the idea to the dealer principal Monday. Price is right for sure.

My son uses a system in the service trucks that uses only a module that plugs into the OBD2 port. You can go on any computer with wifi and find out where the vehicle is etc. It has many parameters that you can use if you want. Monitors idle time, engine hrs and can even log CEL's I think. It will alert when speed is above your set limit and keep track of how long out of compliance stuff takes place for.
Not something you monitor often, but if need be the history is there if you need to check out an issue. IIRC it is GPS to go.

That way you can make sure your parts driver went to the right MacDonalds to get you a coffee. :-laf David

I was referring to my big trucks, BUT that is not a bad idea Dave.

I could force my cantankerous old parts runner into a Dunkin' Donuts at my slightest whim.....:-laf:D

I like that idea!!!!
