I need to try to figure out what the widest mud type load range E tire that will fit on my stock wheels, i have a 6. 7 cummins 2007 long bed crewcab 4x4 single rear wheel, I went to the San Antonio 4wheel parts store today and they tried to sell me load range d tires in Micky Thompsons and some Dick Cepecks in load range d as well, I have called 4 tire chains and pickup places and also picked up a copy of 4 wheel and off road and quizzed up the tire chains that advertised in there, I got conflicted info on what is the largest (widest to me) tire that will fit on a 2007 4x4 srw truck, one guy says that i could even run 33x12. 5x17's and they wont rub with the stock wheels and no lift. I have run 285x70x17s on the truck about a year ago but they were a all terain type and got horid mileage. I want to buy the best mud tire out there that will clean out and still get reasonable mileage on the highway driving i do, i rotate tires at 4000 miles and check air presure all the time. Question is what tire is the best bargin and the widest out there right now??? I cant buy from 4 wheel parts due to a 2 1/2 week backlog in the shop to mount tires, I am thinking of just buying the tire online and having them mounted and balanced in my small town. Its a shame Walmart does not sell wider GoodYears, we have a supercenter in my town but al they have is the stock 265's x17 and nothing wider, does anybody know if walmart can order wider tires from Goodyear if one had the size needed?? Thanks in advance!!!!! I called Planet Pickup and they had a load range e tire in a mud grip type tire 4 of them for $1300 mounted and balanced but need a $200 leveling kit to run them, am going by in the morning to look at them. I need the extra ply load range e due to brush torns and rocky road base on the ranches down here i travel on.

I like the toyo MTs. The 35x12. 50s rubbed a little untill I lifted the front with a Kore Chase setup. The Toyos have impressed my socks off. I've drug the frame in gumbo and they pulled me through. They self clean well, have been quite considering the tread pattern, have worn well with regular rotation and the worst needed 1/4 oz to ballance. They're an E rated tire and have handled a chord of wet red oak on numerous occasions as well as loads of stone. The mpg is not as high as with the stock michelin AS but they won't stick me in wet grass either. I'm on the verge of another set.

The Toyo MT are pretty good if you really need an mt. I had the 35x12. 5 on stock wheels and stock suspention on my 03 they rubbed a tiny bit at full lock on the lower control arm. If I need another mt I would buy them again, but I dont need mt I'll probably get the 285-75-17 at

Because of CARB regulations, A/O 9/1/10 my tire dealer in California can't sell me the BFG 315/70X17s that I have enjoyed for the past 7 years. So I have just ordered Hankook 35X12. 50RX17 load range E... sort of an mild MT... I'll post impressions once I get some miles on them.

Ok, I'll bite. What do CARB regs have to do with tires?

If a Cali dealer wont sell, how about a trip to Nevada?

A/O 9/1/10 CARB decreed that anytime a tire dealer sells tires for a 3/4 ton vehicle the have to inflate them to 70 PSI, to "reduce fuel consumption and pollution". The original tires were 265/70 X 17 load range 'E' with a load rating of 3195# @ 80PSI. The load range 'D' BFG ATs in 315/70 X 17 have a load rating of 3195# @ 50PSI. Since they can't inflate them to 70PSI they can't sell them for my application.

Just more of the BS from the environmental extremests at CARB... which is why I am in Gardnerville Nevada today shopping for a new home.

I have the Toyo MT's 35 12. 5 17 on H2 wheels, they were great for a while (20K or so) and apeared to be wearing well but developed a pretty bad shake at 65 mph on my 02 2500 with 2" leveling kit. Thought it was the truck but I now have them on my 10 and same deal. Shakes no matter what tire is on what corner, wheels have been ballanced twice????? must be the belts or something. Both trucks drove perfectly with the stock tire/wheel. Anyone else have this experiance? Also they are almost 4 years old but only about 30K on them.

I just bought a set of Firestone Destitution MTs in 315/70/17 too. So far they are great! Go through mud really good and are quiet with only a very slight hum. I only have about 2500 miles on them so far. They ride better than the 315 BFG All-Terrains, but seem to take a bit more power (probably because they are not slipping on every start up as the BFGs did).

I understand your pain, Mickey. Skrewwww Kalifornia. :-laf

Sometimes explaining tire load capacities to some people is the equivalent of the ol' question "What weighs more..... a pound of lead or a pound of feathers?" :-laf

What about just bringing the rims to the tire shop and tell them there for a farm implement.
No need to bring the whole truck and be harrased with silly rules.
That way you can get any tires you want.

I started looking for tires, and I can not belive it. Bought a 2005 3500 and I thought it would be nice to have some new treads for the holiday travels.

I would love to support my local economy, but Dang, Kalifornia makes it hard. Since I will be traveling out of the state, I may just wait till I get there to get them.

Sometimes I really wonder of our politicians get it.

Must be a SF deal. My local Discount or Firestone dealer will sell me any tire I want.

I'm in San Diego. Costco and Wallmart are the only ones I know of that will only sell you a stock tire.
