I bought one of the first 03 Ford Lariat 2500 with the worthless 6. 0 that I also could not sell. It was a full option truck, looked like new with 36Kmi. but as soon as I said 6. 0 eng. (They had 7. 3s then switched to 6. 0s 2nd half of year. ) they lost all interest.
I'd had so much trouble with it (I'll not get into the details. )so I was trying to sell it before the warranty ran out, but no luck. I already new too much about that eng. by that time, and I was not about to lie about it to a potential buyer.
After trying to sell it for over a year I decided I would keep it and install a Cummins. After doing some research and talking to De-Stroked etc. , I started shopping for a good used engine. I found one on Ebay, but just before I made the deal I got a phone call from a local Ford mechanic who had heard about my truck on a Ford diesel forum. He came over, drove it and said he would take it for the right price. He said he new all about the 6. 0 problems and his specialty was making good engines out of bad ones. ?? We negotiated a price, and the next day he came over and picked it up.
I paid big bucks for that truck and ended up getting just over 1/3 of what I paid for it. But believe me, I was very glad to get that.
I really liked everything about that truck except the engine, and for a while I thought I had no choice but to swap in a Cummins.
Within a week bought a new 2006 Cummins powered 2500 Q-cab Laramie with the G-56. It was like the ending of a bad dream.
After 3 years and 75K trouble free miles on the 06 I found and bought a very nice 98 12V low mi. dually (Currently in my signature).
I eventually sold my 06 to a friend. It's his first diesel and he loves it.
