Put the stock airbox back in. Disconnect any programmer modules. If you have any aftermarket accessories like Turbo, Intercooler, Intake horn, etc, make sure that they have an EO or a CARB approval number otherwise put the originals back on. Any of these and you will fail. There is a visual inspection to look for bolt ons, a ECU scan, and the highly technical WOT smoke test.

When you pass, pay your taxes and make sure to come back in two years to do it all again.

Once again, intake horns, any air filter, and cat backs are exempt on diesels right now. Any products that were submitted for eo are ok till they are failed. Find a copy of appendix G to carry with you to help the inspector have the correct info in front of him

Cat-converter

I do not recall, but the 2001 Ram 3500, did they come with Cat-Converter,I sure don't remember, I am the original owner. TIA 6naline01

Its a Ca. rip off. Cost my $49 for 5 minutes. Nothing is stuck into the exhaust pipe. They check for after market engine enhancement. They told me they were looking for hot rod diesels. They plug into the port under the dash, Printout a read out and took my money

Force Fed

Thanks for all the input, one more question if your truck did not come with a cat-converter can they require you to put one on in the poorly managed state of Calif. TIA 6naline01:

Get out

The best thing to do is get out of Commiecal let the treehuggers have it with Jerry Brown (he couldnt even make Linda R happy)

I tell ya the 01. 5's-02's are the ones to keep if you want a truck that is not loaded with smog junk. No cat... no egr, swappin out the turbo and programmer every 2 years is not that tough. Makes it easier to on and off stuff for the smog nazis imho. Of course a 98 12 v quad cab 3500 4x4 would be kinda nice about now although I wonder if they will check a 12 valve.

The good news is that for now my IH 4700 is too heavy and not being required to get the DPF add on... . FOR NOW. No test on over 14,000 gvw.

The 98 12 valves are being tested and have EGR

04.5

My 04. 5 has a cat (sometimes) had a cat test pipe made header flange both ends to test cat, remove test pipe install cat, test and reinstall test pipe. After all wouldn't want to use up the cat to fast and have to buy another
