Just adding my . 02... Armor all. Original. If I don't want shiny, I spray it on, use a tire brush to clean, and then spray it off. Usually, when I'm going to wash the truck, I spray the whole truck, and then do the tires first. By the time I'm ready to rinse, the armor all has done it's job, and I just spray it off. Clean, but not shiny.

If you do want the shine, ( I know you said you don't want shiny, but I'll put this so you know what not to do :) ) Armor All tire foam works, and it usually takes two coats. Just spray it on, and when it sets for a while, you'll have clean, semi-glossy tires. One more coat, and they'll be shiny.

Matte shine on tires

An old trick I learned from a guy who had a show motorcycle, was to use ordinary DOT3 brake fluid on the tires, being very careful of course not to get it on the paint. It leaves a beautiful satin sheen, and by definition brake fluid is a rubber preservative so no worries about it degrading the tire material. Takes a bit of elbow grease but it also removes any oxidized rubber from the tire surface.

Elbow grease seems to be the best when used with a stiff scrub brush and abrasive cleanser. Sometimes I'll hit 'um with a tire dressing and wipe most of it off. Seems to make it easier to keep the tires clean for 2 to 3 washings. Then repeat.

I like the idea of the Aerospace 303 not just for tires but for boat covers also.

Went driving around awhile looking for Aerospace 303 and came up empty. Stopped at Napa, Auto Zone and O'Reilly's and I only got blank looks when I asked for it.

Whatever you apply, I've found that I like the results better when I take my nylon brush and scrub the product into the tire surface.

This gives a better look than just spray and do nothing more.

In all cases the shine flattens out a little after the first day or so.

Just saying!!!!!!

I usually get one by the gallon from: Amazon.com or autogeek.com. The 303 works really good on the bed liner as well. Ed B

I like Westleys tire bleach the best. Spray on (be careful not to breath it in), leave a couple minutes and wash off. It just deeply cleans tires and leaves them flat black. Also look for this: Duplicolor TIRE SHINE COATING - TSHC100. I saw it previewed on 2 guys garage and it looks like it's going to work well. Flat black but it's not out yet.

Thanks guys, will order from Amazon, there's no Pep Boys, West Marine or Camping World within 150 miles of here.

303 Aerospace Protectant.

303 Products - Aerospace Protectant, High Tech Fabric Guard -  World's Leading Automotive Care Products

Order direct!

Info about their various products & how to use are also on the site.

They have sales from time to time - will advise you of sales & prices via e-mail.

Also - 303 will send you a sample of their products for about $9.

I purchase by the gallon, but for a test - you *may* be able to find an 8oz bottle of 303 Proctectant at some hardware stores (like Ace - but *not* Lowes or HD)

~

BTW - Never use ArmorAll on anything you plan to keep.

Kind of makes me want to clean my tires.

303--good stuff, I'm on my third gallon in 11 years. Expensive, but worth it. I use it on almost everything including my rv rubber roof after it's annual cleaning.
