I want to put a Magtec pan on my transmission. Should I get the deep or double-deep pan? Any advantage/disadvantage with either one? Thanks

The MH double deep pan adds fluid capacity and probably aids fluid cooling. I bought one for my '06. The 48RE rebuilders who build the tough transmissions for heavy towing or special purpose like sled pulling recommend them.

I have a DD on my Georend w/ Amsoil & my temps usually run avg. 120 deg. The highest was in summer pulling 3600lbs. at 162 deg.

I have a ATS double deep pan on my ATS transmission... I have a 2wd, and sometimes wish I had a single deep just for peace of mind. Always afraid I'll hit something and crack it.

Anyone have any pics with a DD pan as to show how far it sticks down... I do go offroad a bit and would hate to hit it or worse... .

I have some pics in my photo gallery. Mag-Hytec 727-DD drivers side rear - Photo Gallery

The DD is still higher than the skid plate. My towing temps in the summer with high ambients are approx 160-165F and the temp doesn't rise until I'm backing the 5er into a campsite (to approx 180-190F).

I have had the double deep pan on my truck for 5 yrs and I have seen the temp on my transmission rise above 160-170 maybe twice. The extra added fluid is nice. The pretapped hole for the temp sensor and the fact that you can just remove the drain plug to drain the oil instead of removing the bolts on half the pan and let it hang is convenient. The extra added bonus of the magnetic drain plug adds a little more protection. The only problem I have encountered is the first time I went to change the oil and filter I tried to use the rubber gasket that came with the filter. That was a mistake, the gasket kept slipping out from in between the pan and the transmission in the back right corner where it is real skinny (even with the assistance of RTV) when I would torque down the bolts. I ended up losing a lot of very expensive synthetic transmission fluid. When all was said and done I went to GENOSGARAGE and bought another 1 of the cork gaskets that they have available and it solved the problem.
