I purchased a viair 450c compressor to replace a really cheap unit I mounted under the bed. I would like to mount the new one under the hood and run the air line to the tank under the bed. Any one have any pictures of their unit mounted to give me a few ideas? I believe the old one was ruined due to freezing moisture so I want it in the engine bay so that it will get heated up some. Had some ideas about putting it behind the rear seat of the mega cab but would rather not have it in the cab either. Would like any pictures or ideas

Mine is mounted under the air cleaner box. There is some dead space in the fender well below the air filter box and inside of the wheel well liner. You have to remove the wheel well liner (temporarily) to get it in there, but with the liner back in place it is protected from the elements. Wouldn't do any good to take a picture because you can't see it from the top or the wheel well. The inline filter is mounted towards the top of the firewall for ease of access.

This looks like its mounted to the engine? Wouldn't that vibrate/shake the compressor a lot?

I had mine mounted in the same spot Brian J mentioned when I had a compressor on my '01. I'm getting ready to install a pacbrake on my 06 this week - but recent surgery prevents me from doing it my self..... rats!

Unless you mount the compressor, Solenoid and the sensor in Heat source location it will NOT operate in -0 temps in most cases. My auxiliary tank is mounted to frame on rider side ,I drain it 2-3 times yearly rarely is water found. . I also have the Air operated TV with slow mention valve. if you want the proper operation of the PRXB and the most stopping residence this actuator must be installed 03-04. 5,05-07 will need to wait until EFILive is available for TCM.

So it's mounted on top of the fuse box cover? What if you need to get in there?

You just lift it out of the Way, Or disconnect the lines and 1 wire (QC) it takes less then 2 minutes to completely remove. Its quite and works, My original Compressor is still good... Pac gave this one to me for some info I shared... great company to do business with. . the factory (Pac) compressor was in this location for 5 years. . You will never get that life for the engine mounted compressor.

I looked it over and the FB does look like a pretty good spot. I've always been a bit concerned about having it on the front of the eng. - it also looks a bit silly up there IMO. It's got to cook up there but it does keep it from freezing. Last week mine froze in the "On" position for the first time. That was scary. .

Can you elaborate on what a TV is and which actuator you are describing? Are these different parts than are supplied by pacbrake?

My viair looks to be the same size as the pac brake. I to planed on having the entire compressor under the hood with only the pressure switch and tank under the bed. I currently have a one gallon tank that I used hose clamps to secure it to the frame. Hoping to at least find a 2 gallon tank. Thanks for the pic, anyone else have any?

I found some great tanks on Ebay in the range of 2, 3 & 5 gallons that the low rider guys use. They're nice looking aluminum, USA made and under $100.

I also found a guy on ebay selling 2,3 and 5 gallon tanks that were used on the gasoline powered construction used compressors. He sells the tanks for 20 - 30 bucks. They are only rated to 100 psi but i'm sure that they can go higher. He will only tell you what is on the sticker.

I appreciate the response, but I'm a little dense... ... is the image you attached of the actuator? Is it not a pacbrake part?

Thanks!

No its NOT PacBrake Part... Pac does not have them. its Banks and works great, Bank Electronics Pac Brake... if you install the banks electronics you will have 4-3 downshift unlock and re-lock to 2 gear and its FAST. I only use 4-3.

Aha - thanks! I have a manual trans - but I do know that Banks has some nice stuff. I had a friend work there and got a tour of the facility years ago. Wow - some of the "pet projects" were spectacular.

I have a Viair system on order that has the compressor mounted to the tank. For ease of use when RVing I decided to mount it in my toolbox.

System Includes:

Viair 480C Compressor

2 Gallon tank

165 on/200 off pressure switch

Drain cock

Safety valve

Specifications:

12-Volt DC

Duty cycle: 50% @ 200 psi

Max working pressure: 200 psi

Amp draw: 20 amps

Dimensions: 19" L x 6" W x 14" H

1. 76 CFM @ 0 psi, 1. 13 CFM @ 100 psi

Fill time: 0 to 200 psi = 3 minutes, 56 seconds. 165 to 200 psi = 1 minute, 2 seconds

Mine is mounted on the fender behind the pass. side battery box. The noise inside the cap is not to bad. Sorry no pictures.

TCDiesel... can you tell me what model compressor that is? (or measure how tall it is for me)?

I have a Viair coming, and I'm curious if it will fit on top of the fuse cover, and want to measure.

Thanks!
