I just installed the 08+ steering upgrade kit from dodge on my 06 . when I received the kit I was disapointed that the new setup didnt have any grease fittings on the tie rod ends , Did anyone ever drill these and install their own grease fittings?

Sorry I can't say much about grease taps other then, just make sure when you do pump grease into the tie rod make sure the boots are not sealed units? Not sure? As i am sure you know grease-able joints are open so grease forces dirt out.

I also will be doing the o8 upgrade within the next 2 weeks where did you go for the kit and what was the cost? I have found it on kore, moparsupercenter.com source auto

My wife works at a dodge dealer, I would like to order oem parts but don't know the #s does Anyone know them?

I ordered it online from a dodge dealer I dont remember who it was, but the price for the whole kit was around $400 shipped which included the new tie rod linkage, steering stabilizer , and pitman arm , And by the way getting the pitman arm off was the hard part if I ever do it again I would cut the old one off with a grinding wheel before trying to pull it and heat it.

Randy,
I drilled and tapped mine but it was a pain. There is not much room to run a tap through to make the threads. I would suggest having someone with experience in tapping threads do it. I should have.

I drilled and tapped mine as well. Pretty straightforward.

If you want them already tapped, Source Automotives sells them.

It would be nice if every one fill in the botton so we could see what year and other info.

The reason they don't have grease fittings (on my 2001 at least) is because the cup inside is nylon and the "spring" is a plug of rubber, or polyurethane. They get loose because the parts degrade.

When I bought my 2001 in 2005 the tie-rods were shot. I figured since they were trash anyway I would play with them a little. I ground off the crimp that holds the cover, spring and cup in place and replaced the silly poly plug that was supposed to apply pressure, with a heavy 3/4" lock washer. I clamped the whole sandwich until I had the right amount of tension and welded it all together. Before I did this I drilled and tapped the round cover to accomodate a Zerk fitting. The nylon cup has a hole in the center to allow grease to get to the ball. Almost 6 years and still tight.
