Is there a link to a well written procedure for updating a Smarty Jr. The information on the MAD Electronics website is very inadequate, incomplete and hard to follow.

Is there also a chart that shows what the parameters are for each of the 3 levels? The only parameters shown in the Instruction manual section 6 are torque and injection timing. Selections under Torque are Stock, mild, soft, and light. This tells you absolutely nothing.

I like the product, but its been on the market long enough to get these issues cleaned up!

Help would be appreciated.

I don't think I've seen anything but good about their customer service. You might have to call them. A lot of web sites that I have thought lacking, have had helpful people on the end of the phone line.

What issues are you having with updating it?

SW1: economy, 40 hp, timing only, power gain in the mid-rpm range.
SW2: towing, 70hp, timing and duration, power gain across entire rpm range.
SW3: performance, 100hp, timing and more duration, power gain across entire rpm range.

Timing:
TM1: Stock
TM2: Default
TM3: less than TM2
TM4: more than TM2

Order of retarded to advanced TM1, TM3, TM2, TM4

Torque Management
TQ1: Stock
TQ2: Default "mild"
TQ3: milder
TQ4: mildest.

In order of least tq at wheels (slow speed, low gears) to most, TQ1, TQ4, TQ3, TQ2.

I agree that the update process it terrible. I have had nothing but problems doing the updates for my Smarty JR and I am not alone.

A top notch product with a Mickey Mouse update system.

My probs are with the updating process off the web. Downloading the tune to the ECM works properly.

Also loosing my overdrive lockout flash with the JR is something that should not happen but does. With an 05 pulling heavy in the hills it is a must and this issue has been raised with no resolve.

I found it difficult to actually install the correct driver on to my computer so that it would correctly recognize the smarty. Depending on the site where you get the information to up date it, sometimes they leave a step out or two, or right in the middle of the directions, they ask you to reference a different page. I almost quit trying to do it and was going to send it to Bob to update it for me, but I was leaving on a trip the next day and wanted to try the newest update so after about 2 hours of messing around and finding the right page, it got it to work. Now that the computer is set up with the right drivers, the next time will be a piece of cake, but the initial set up is hit or miss depending on what operating system and service pack updates you have. I am not the most computer savy but I am not a complete idiot either and can see how frustrating it can be.

It would be nice if you could just go to a web page that would do the update for you similar to updating a Garmin GPS. That still takes a bit of time but it walks you through the process quite easily.

Got it Going!

I finally got the new programming into the Smarty. Downloading the files, getting them unzipped, initiating the executable and getting the new programming into the Smarty is where I had trouble. Getting the new program into the truck was straightforward.

I still think a product that has been on the market this long should have a decent upgrade procedure. Obviously, I'm not the only one who has had problems.

Thank you very much for the help AH64ID and WCPoe and the other good people who replied.

Now we can go on vacation!

I agree the update process stinks. After spending way too much time trying to get it to work, I finally got the files from a friend who got the update to work. I just loaded the files onto a thumb drive and then transferred them to my PC, and then I was able to update Jr. I had left a message for B. Wagner, but never got a return call. Pretty lousy process. Bruce

It's interesting how opposite peoples update experiences are. It's either super simple or very difficult. I have never had any issues with it, but plenty do. Usually if you just take your time and make sure you have all the proper software and drivers downloaded you will be fine. Luckily the drivers only need to be installed the first time.

#@$%! Totall agree! Not all of us are computer guru's and when I purchased mine I had to upgrade before I could install. I had a terrrible time and ended up getting a guy at work who is a computer Guru help me and he stated the same thing. Instructions were confusing and not well written.

Again what's the issue?

It's never been anything but super easy/smooth for me.

When I had problems, you gave me step-by-step that really helped,:) however the instructions on the web site are not that clear:mad:. Not meaning to bash Bob, love the product, fast delivery, just I agree with others, the directions are not that clear.
