Driving a 97 with a built automatic, #6 forward, 4in straight pipe, afe stage 1 and torque tube. I'd like to see 400 hp.

I plan on updating the plate, and getting 3k springs.

The turbo was purchased used by this guy. He had to have it rebuilt. And has since put 30k on it with his 24 valve that did 436hp. He used a turbo timer to cool it down.

I know I need a new down tube and should do an exhaust manifold. What else should I consider as far as the turbo is concerned?

Nothing really, down tube and tie in the oil lines. I'm still running the stock exhaust manifold. If you don't run high egt's the manifold will last. Just watch the ears near the bolts for bending. Have you done the Killer Dowel Pin fix? If the boots are original, you'll blow one soon.

Your running a #6 full foreward with a stock turbo? Wow, I would think your egt's would be too high. Mine ran good in the stock position. I'm slightly forward now and even with the larger turbo I can't stay all the way in it for long.

I would say injectors if you want HP, I just have City Diesel 370's in mine. I still get over 19 mpg in my dually with the fuel mods. The 370's haze and don't run clean but, they are cheap too.

The 3K gov springs are a great addition, totally wakes the thing up in the higher revs. I can pull at 2700 rpm all day under boost pulling heavy loads at 900 to 1100 egt. RPM is your friend and pistons melt north of 1300.

Do some searching on here, lots of old threads on injectors. The marine 370's still give the most for you $$$'s. The main thing is to keep the egt's in check and don't burn a piston with low boost and high fuel. Boost over 40 psi will stretch head bolts, I have mine gated at 38 psi. Check out City Diesel for the gov kit and injectors... they are the home of the Dodgezilla turbo also. I've ran thier Bosch injectors with no issues.

Funny thing about the Kdp. The previous owner didn't know what it is. I got to look at the tab the original owner put in when I pulled it apart. Somebody also slide the stock plate all the way forward. My egt's where higher before I put the 6 in because of the new waetegate elbow.

I would slide the plate back some if the egts are 1000 / 1100 driving around town. I've had 370 injectors for so long I don't remember what the stock set up would do with the plate slid all the way.

My rig would be way too hot with the plate slid all the way forward now... I'm a bit more than the stock position on my #6 and 40 pounds with my 62/14 turbo comes quick. I have the high flow DV's which are overkill actually, if i did it over again I would stick 180 DV's in my little 160 hp pump.

Burning up the engine is not worth it though, these trucks will run for a long time if you don't melt a piston with stupid fuel mods. So, be carfull with your egt's.

99% of the time my truck never goes over 1200 degrees even when playing at full throttle. Running fast and having fun on the back roads l'll see 1,000 on the egt going into 4th while blowing smoke frightening the locals with the loud straight pipe... But none of that 1400 to 1600 degree crap, thats hell on the engine. I installed the BD valet switch for around town towing...

1100 is as high as I can get it. I haven't seen anything higher. I looked at city diesel. Some of there prices are real reasonable. I'll probably trace a 10 or 100 out of my stock plate and get all of the pump goodies from tst and see what happens.
