Loss of power finally died

I have 2004. 5, 4x4, stock, 106000 miles, I'm the original owner, and my wife drives it 99% of the time.



Friday it drove fine to work 25 miles. On the way home after 18 miles of freeway driving I turned a corner put it to the floor and tried to pass a car and it lost power a few seconds later it picked back up.

A few miles down the road it did the same thing.

So I changed the fuel filter, I saw no signs of water or contamination, the filter did not look to bad. Last time I changed it was about 6 months ago.

I cycled the key a few times to prime it. It basically took over and hour of repeating this before it would start. I ran fine once it started.



To day I drove I to work 24 miles passed few few cars and it died. It took me about two minutes to restart, it runs rough four a little bit then soothed out. I made it to work.



I'm wondering if it's the fuel pump or something else. If I makes it home tonight I will need to play the lottery.



Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

Sounds like your eng mounted lift pump has had it. Those are the classic symptoms/warnings . You can go after market or do the Dodge retrofit kit and put a pump in the tank. If I had it to do over again, I would get a new eng mounted pump and carry a spare in the truck. It's easy to change on the side of the road.

one of two ways to go

1) replace the fuel filter mounted pump and carry a spare.

2) Go with an Airdog 100 (got mine from Glacier / Richard is outstanding to work with!!)

Lift pump. I agree with Prairie Dog. I have been enjoying my truck for over a year now without having to drop the tank or plumbing in a new high dollar aftermarket system. I'm not against the aftermarkets pumps. I did the stock replacement for ease of replacement when I couldn't take the rig out of service to do those other changes. RDeFayette brings up a good point if you want to go with better filtration. I don't believe the stock lift pump is up to running 2 extra fuel filters.

I forgot to mention with the engine mounted lift pump if you go with the airdog you do NOT have to drop the tank.

Two hours only for the Airdog? That gets it done after work. I would go aftermarket before I put the pump in the tank. When you think about it; $180 x 2 for a stock pump and back up, gets you pretty close to better filtration and more flow. I also hear very good things about GDP.

I installed the AD100 on my truck in less than that... being they clamp the frame, its a very easy install. The longest part (for me) was figuring out where I wanted it on the frame rail. I already had the filler hose cut though, for the return manifold. But it installed easier than the FASS it replaced because there was no drilling involved.
