Need used 2004 tailgate...Sources?

I need to replace my tailgate. A new OEM one is over $800 (tailgate and inside cover only. )



The aftermarket black primer part is only $150, so it sounds like the part may be of questionable quality.



Any suggestions where I can find a good used tailgate for painting?



Any and all advice and experiences welcome.

Hey Joe I did the Ebay one that was also painted my color for me . It is aftermarket but figured I would just screw it up again. Everything fit well . Good luck

Have you considered a 'V' notched vented tailgate, since you have 5th wheel?

the other day I saw a guy with a factory tailgate and it had a v notch in it, like they took a hack saw and cut it out and finished it... ... It was well finished... . just looked a little funny... ... ...

Found a tailgate off a 2005 Ram, White also.
But don't know if the white is "Bright White" like my truck.
Any way I can find out what color white was offered in 2005?

My 2005 is "Bright White" with a clearcoat. Says so on the invoice.

When I got my brand new 95 Dodge dually home, I removed the OEM tailgate, stored it in the garage and didn't put it back until I sold the truck 10 years later. I installed the V notched tailgate and liked it so much I never cared to put the original back on. No it didn't have a lock and I didn't care if it did anyway.
