Greetings to all,

Been a lurker here for years, and finally have a request for info. I have an '04 quad cab 4x2 short bed with 110,000 miles on it. Bought it brand new in Mar '04. Have towed a 31 ft RV for ~20,000 miles rest of it easy highway miles. transmission gets serviced every 30,000 miles.

This past week a shift problem has developed. When in urban traffic I am light footed on the throttle due to traffic, 1st to 2nd is fine, but going from 2 to 3rd, it unexpectedly down shifts to 1st. Give it a little more throttle and it goes right on up thru the gears, 1 to 2, 2 to 3 and 3 to 4. Seems that as long as I drive it aggressively, it is happy. But the shift problem is when I am easy on the throttle. Spoke with my mechanic on Sat. and he recommended taking it into a transmission shop to have the shift points reflashed. I have read the transmission forum and done a search on website. see a few similar problems, but not sure if I should take it to transmission shop if it is a quick fix. Only thing I can think of different, is I unplugged RV brake controller, but cannot imagine that is the problem. Will hook it back up to check.

Thanks,

HLB3/Butch

Light throttle shuttle shifting has been a common problem for quite a few of us. There is nothing to be re-flashed that I'm aware of. You can try adjusting your throttle valve cable, I will attach a link that will show a diagram and an explanation on how to accomplish this, read the whole thread.

If that does not help, you may have to replace your governor pressure solenoid and sensor.

When you say serviced did they adjust the bands or just change the fluid/filter?

If that doesn't help like JJpage said time to think about replacing the governor pressure solenoid and sensor.

If that's the case go with the GM upgrade.
