So here's some irony for you.

Several years ago I installed T&C Diesel's dual factory lift pump bracket and a second lift pump. Knowing that these pumps are failure prone and knowing my factory pump had 120,000 + miles on it, I wanted some insurance for an upcoming trip to Montana, that I wouldn't be stuck on the side of the road with a dead lift pump. I know, I can carry a replacement, they are easy to change, but I like working on my stuff on my time! So I got it installed, fuel pressure was much better and more consistent and I was happy. Several trips back and forth to Montana over the past few years and no issues.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed my fuel pressure was dropping off much more than normal when I put my foot in it and also was not stable as I was cruising down the highway. So last weekend I disconnected the electric from each pump individually and sure enough, I had a dead pump. So I got on RockAuto and ordered a new one. Went out tonight to change the pump, pull it off, put the new one on. No problems. Fuel pressure is back where it should be. So I go back into the garage and look at the bad pump I just pulled off. Turns out it is the new replacement/secondary pump I installed two years ago! My factory pump is still going strong at 150,000 miles!

So we shall see if in another 2 years I have to replace another replacement pump!

Jeff

I am still runing the one that came on the truck. I have a back up under the back seat. Also one in my Boonie Box in my fifth wheel.

I yanked my original pump off at around 165,000 miles after buying a replacement pump from Geno's. That pump failed not too long after installing it, so, i re-installed the original pump and ran it until I received another pump from Geno's. I now have approximately 20K more miles and feel this pump is about to fail (based on the sound of it at start up). If it fails, guess i will put the original back on and wait for another replacement pump (or, go a different route this time).

Well I was think could a man rebild his old pump?? If I had an old pump to tear a part to check it out! It might be jest a motor that needs to be a little heaver. We have 2 plants that bilds ELT motors here in town. We also have a rebild shop also.

Do you know what went wrong with your pump?? What do you think went wrong?? was it the pump or the Elt motor?? Please let me know what you think. Thank Ben.

Mine went 130K and died pretty fast. I thought my QZilla was on the fritz as I was driving along with 0psi. Wasn't long and rail pressure started dropping and eventually went to zero. I rapped on the pump with a spare trailer ball and it went another 130 miles so I made it home with my 5klb trailer. One thing that you do have to do when the pump is failing is back off to 55mph or under to reduce the pump load. It'll read 0 at 65mph pulling a trailer and 2-5psi at 55mph. Got a Genos (Carter) replacement after spending way too much time here researching alternatives. So far, so good.

For those that don't have FP gauges, I highly recommend one as it diagnoses lift pump issues right away.

Ben, I sent pump back to Geno's and they replaced it with another. Not sure what the problem was but feel it was motor related. James
