Why the extra filter the one on the truck does a good job?
Change the oil more often and you won't need a by-pass filter. Just more lines and fitting to leak if you ask me! I have been doing oil sample yearly thru blackstone since truck was new. Change the oil & filter and fuel filter every 5,000 miles, and I now have over 135K on the truck now and the oil samples come back with no problems, all normal!
I've gone as far as 155,000 miles with only ONE OIL DRAIN in that 155,000 mile 9 year period! NO oil leaks ever, and certainly much less costs involved, as well as dumping 31 oil changes each change at 5,000 mile intervals. 3 GALLONS X 31 = 93 GALLONS dumped!
Plus a good By-Pass system will give you much better wear! PROVEN many times over.
Lots of people doing just what your doing. On the flip side I can't bring myself to run cheap oil/filters when it's not that much more for high quality parts.

Are you in the Army? When I worked for DCMA, I worked on the AH64 program. The company I was assigned to built the throttle controls and some other related parts. A grea looking aircraft, but is it easy to work on?
Yes I am, well actually the ID Nat'l Guard. It's not too bad to work on, some things are a PITA, but pretty easy for the most part. Troubleshooting takes the most time, but it's pretty fun doing the test flights.
