Hello, I am new to this forum, but wanted to see if there are any suggestions out there.

Tonight on my way to work as I was pulling into the parking lot, my gauge cluster lit up like a xmas tree, cel, abs, brake, 4x4, and I'm not sure what else. at the same time all the gauges went to 0. I pulled into a parking spot and shut the truck off, lights stayed on on the dash. I tried to restart the truck, no go, will crank just fine but no fire, and I do not remember if the wts light came on. I tried to do the key trick to get codes, nothing would display, not even P-Done. I disconnected the batteries to get the lights to shut off on the dash (I know this will erase the codes, that is why I tried to get the codes first).

what are these sympoms pointing towards?

when I get relieved at 6 am I will be looking at the truck further. My first order of busness is to remove the Adrenaline, and see if that helps.

Truck is: 2001 2500 CTD w/ nv4500 4x4. Raptor 150 lift pump, fuel pressure gauge, Quadzilla Adrenaline, and that is about it. will fill in sig soon.

Update: re hooked batteries, truck starts fine. All the dash lights operate like they should, rough and varying idle. High idle sounds funny, and no codes with key trick, just get p-done twice. Any thoughts or suggestions on what to do next?

Hi,

I am not an expert by no means and I have never own anything older than a 2008 CTD. So I can not offer much help to you other than this link to a PDF book that TDR provides. In the book they tell you by year what to look for and how to fix those issues, this may be of some help.

My other suggestion is to buy a code reader and keep it in the truck. I have one and so do many others.

Maybe some others will come forward and offer more insight. Good Luck and welcome to the site.

The whole thing points to an ECM fault which could be a poor connection or ground or a failing ECM. All the lights on the dash are a power on reset (like when you first turn on the truck) but the dash isn't communicating with the ECM (they're connected with a computer network called CANBus). If the truck is cranking but not starting then then ECM isn't telling the injector pump to fuel. A bad alternator or battery can do all sorts of interesting things too.

so, this afternoon I cleaned the snot out of the cable ends and re-attached them, did the apps reset, and everything seems to have cleared up. Iddle is fine, truck runs fine, no abnormal lights or gauge fluctuations (other than the fuel level not reading right, has been this way since I got the truck).

Is it possible it was bad connections?

will be keeping an eye on it and pulling codes with a scanner tomorrow.

Did you wash your truck or get into some water? there is a main wiring connection right behind the left front tire, it is between the inner fender well and the body, it gets wet the truck will do that and also show CCD on your overhead temp/compus.

Think of getting Tims TPS, factory ones are expensive and fail after a while

Rick

are you talking about the Timbo APPS? I was looking into the apps, but never heard of Tims TPS.

No, havn't washed my truck in like 6 months, no water around here right now either.

I think the sensors run at 5V so it doesn't take much to throw them off. The corrosion will make some signals intermittent and the vibration doesn't help either.

That was my thinking, and I figured they needed the cleaning anyways, KISS was the plan to start with.
