How to test fan clutch?

I am looking for opinions as to why I have a loud gear chatter in neutral. My truck is a 2003' with a NV5600 6 speed. A friend is a big rig mechanic and he did the work. new fly wheel, new clutch (complete assembly with bearings etc. ) The truck shifts nice, but the only problem is at idle when in neutral while idling there is a fairly loud chatter. If I rev up the motor a little it goes away and if the clutch is depressed it goes away.

Any ideas, what this could be?

I am using Redline 70/80 MTL, fill it as high as possible then jack up half the truck so I can fill it a little more. Just started having this noise with the new clutch.

The OEM dual mass clutch hides the normal gear rattle that you are now hearing. Your OK just something to get used to;) GW

I don't believe the DMF was used in '03 or with the 5600. It's possible that the old clutch had slightly more damping in the disc or that some of the springs were getting weak. A very smooth running engine should mitigate the noise, but it's nothing to worry about.

I had the clutch replaced in my NV5600 last may and mine does the same thing. It's gear rollover and the aftermarket clutch is probably stronger than the OEM and transmits more noise.

SBC told me I could go with a thicker fluid or Lucas additive to quiet it down, I just press and release the clutch and that stops it. I personally don't want to mess with the fluid.

The 03 didn't come with a DMF.

If the new clutch is a SBC I've noticed the new disc's come with two springs and the rest are a composition rubber like material. So if the clutch disc that was removed had all springs that could be were the difference in sound transmission is coming from.
