They want you have a few/stop/start cycles to make sure the CEL won't come on again. Just had my truck smoged for the first time in December... . pulled off the comp box and tucked in all the wiring and it passed fine.

Was worried !!!

Actually it is to get the monitors to run

They must have passed to pass the smog

Test

p-BAR,

Did you ever notice that early 04's don't have a cat in Ca? My smog buddy showed me the reference book and it shows that 04's do not come with one. There is no 1/2 year information.

I put mine back in (still there) before I had to smog simply because I know that it came with it.

Ya I brought this up last year about this time when the guy told no half years in the book . Just goes to show you how screwed up this state is. Not sure if I will remove the cat they may catch the SNAFU down the line.

I was running my truck straight piped. It was just too loud pulling grade with our trailer. That's the main reason I put it back in.

All the state wants is their $8 per truck. Nothing else.

Ya I did the 50lb muff delete and left the cat in place. Very nice sound. Your right on the money and by the time it's administered it cost them (us) 10. 00, more state employees and nice CALPERS retirement

Guys remember the 1/2 year designation has it's roots from the internet not the corporation.

Just like the 98 model year can be 12 or 24v.

My friend installed a turboback exhaust on his '05,deleting the cat. Anticipating the emission test here,he spliced the cat back in. When the smog tech entered the vin # he claimed his vehicle didn't require one?

Anyway,he left the cat in for sound reduction with no measurable drop in performance or fuel economy. Truck passed.

Funny how that 600 engine came in the dodges 1. 1. 04 ? I would call that half year changeover. How about particulate filter 07. 5 ? Darn Al Gore for inventing the internet :-laf

Like I said corporate never has used any 1/2 designation... ... ... ... ...

Bob, there was not a half year for my 07 C&C, but it showed on the computer as a 5. 9. As good as computers are today, you would think VIN's would define all emission related equipment. My guess, is the State wanted my money sooner than it could get the system correct. As I have stated in the past, it's our money the State wants. Just another tax here in a state where my registration allready costs $700. 00 and it is 5 years old. #@$%!

Yea the state's system is flawed to say the least.

The vin does break it all down in the corporate web site... ... ... .....

The diesel smog requirements always fall on Jan 1... ... ... ... just the way it is

Chrysler DOES NOT call out 1/2's :-laf:-laf

This past Friday I went to my appointment at the dealer for the (P2607), was there 7-1/2 hours waiting. They had a hard time locating the problem, hence the long time, but was only charged 262 bucks for the repair. They finally spliced in a new wire from the plug on firewall to the solenoid #2.

I did notice a difference with #2 working, they seem to alternate between themselves.

After inspecting the job at home it was not up to my standard. The new wire did not follow the wire loom, just hanging loosely. Also I wanted to know why the problem happened in the first place. So I went through a big job to remove the airbox, battery box to run the loose wire into the wire loom and look for chafing or crush. Everything was virgin, so I removed the cut wire, ohm checked it, continuity, dam. Now I think it comes down to a bad connection on the firewall plug, but the mechanic was going around circles to find the problem. Spliced in the wire which did not fix the problem, went to the plug, disturbed it, systems works. I disconnected the plug to inspect, no corrosion, put is back together and used two tywraps to secure the half's together tight.

All this because of a failed smog test, P2607 code !

I agree with you and the subpar repair, and would have done exactly what you did, only after the smog cert was in my hand. If it didn't pass for the P2607 code you could go back to the dealer and complain, and hopefully get a free repair because that is what you were there for. But now that you changed it, they can wash their hands of it.

The proper repair should have been to change the pins in the plug, on both sides and then tighten it as you described, even though it probably would be unnecessary.

After the work from the dealer I went straight over to the test only smog station. With invoice in hand I showed him repair was made, please smog again. Well he said I need to put some time and miles on truck. On the invoice it says erase code, but he insisted it would still be there. I called the dealer and talked to someone in repair, they pretty much agreed with the smog tech, you need some miles and time for the ECM to clear. My plan is to go in this Friday to retest, will have put on 500 miles by then.

All the 3rd gens I have checked show the monitors had passed right after clearing the codes... .

It is easy to check

2nd gens and Gassers do need some drive cycles to run

How much extra pollution was generated while driving the 500 miles to clear the code? Is the state of California willing to compensate the driver for the $100 worth of fuel consumed for this "exercise"?

It does not take 500 miles to clear a code :-laf The code is cleared as soon as the button is pushed... ... ... ...

The monitors (self test on emissions functionality) takes a bit... ... ... not 500 miles. Usually less than 50. Each monitor needs a specific drive cycle for it to run

I was told drive 100 miles at least before retesting. I drove the 500 miles because I could not get retested until the following week. The miles were racked up commuting to work.
