Last year, 2011 with 183k miles, my OE injectors finally gave up. I was lucky enough to be towing our 36' 5er and 2000 miles away from home when it happened.
Prior to the vacation, my truck would randomly start rough, idle rough and belch a little bit of white smoke. Then it wouldn't do that for weeks. While on the road, it would do the above one day, then be fine the next. Finally, they blew. No codes, nothing. Just me looking like a tard, blowing an enormous cloud of white smoke with engine doing the shake and bake.
At the time, the were NO new Bosch injectors availible so I had to settle for Cummins re-man's. I was able to get em installed the next day, which was nice. I paid more for the remans and labor than new ones would have cost and I also could have installed the darn theings myself.
Fast forward a year and my truck is starting to mimmick last years woes. As I write this, my truck has been sitting at a Cummins service center for 7 days. I just got off the phone with them and they tell me that nothing is wrong so I'm guessing that my truck isn't in the mood to act up during startup.
Knowing my luck, all will be fine untill June 18th and I'll find myself forking out $1000's to replace my Cummins re-mans. #@$%!
