My Lie-Ometer said I was getting 8. 2 pulling my triple axle toy hauler 73 miles an hour on the Oklahoma turnpike sunday... probably normal?!?!?

Yep, it's normal. Pulling a tall trailer like that with a very large frontal area at 73 mph you were pushing a lot of air. That demands power and creating power burns fuel - lots of it.

You may have been pushing a headwind also if you were running southwest from Joplin to Tulsa or Tulsa to Okie City. Our Cummins engines are the best engines money can buy in a light truck but they can't overcome the laws of physics.

My 2012 Max Tow got 16 highway empty, 60-70 mph, on the first tank, towing, the 5th wheel is about 13500 pounds, I was getting 10. 2 towing in the west, lots of up and down hills. Now after 7500 miles, the towing mpg is 11. 4, that is hand calculated, I drive 57-62 mph, all west coast so for, it's getting better.

Just to make this more interesting, it really was 11. 47 to be exact, but Ford says there's gets the best mileage, well we were traveling with another couple who has a 2012 F350 with the 6. 7, he gets the exact same MPG as my Ram does, so much for that claim.

I have a bit over 18k on mine now. I checked it by hand yesterday and got 17. 1. That was empty. This is just a bit over two months. (If someone has a truck they want to get broke in let me borrow it. )

Thats not bad for a big heavy truck. Speed, terrain and weight play a big part.



My much smaller '01 on a 3500 mile round trip averaged 19. 28. Worst tank was on I-10 in Texas with their 80 mph speed limit, 16. 32, best was in New Mexico on a slow crooked 40-50 mph remote highway at 22. 33.



I just returned from a visit to Enterprise, Alabama my son is stationed there at Ft. Rucker. The price of fuel didn't vary much from AZ. the high was 4. 09 and the low was 3. 83.

I drove from Palm Springs to Pahrump for May Madness 60-62 mph with EB, cruise and tow haul on, no winds 80-90 degrees 8. 5 mpg hand calc. Return trip same conditions 10 mpg hand calc. Truck has 10 k on clock. Pahrump is 2,500 feet and Palm Springs is sea level. So far happy with performance especially with 27,000 gcvw and 3:42 gears. Just before Pahrump there are some over 6 percent grades and it pulled down into third but never went below 55. Mileage keeps getting better. Awesome truck!!!!!!
