Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) NV5600 parts shortages?

My recently purchased 2002 2500 quad 4x4 24V, came with what appears to be a non-op fuel sending unit: fuel gauge always on empty, low fuel light on.

I have been on LMC Trucks online catalog, but can't find a part number... can anyone help out a noob with the correct part number for the sending unit. (Please note, I am installing the Carter pump on the rail, with filters, so am not looking for the updated in-tank lift pump. )

BTW, while I'm at it, any recos on where to get parts for our trucks? Thanks!

Cheers,

-jerry

Hi Jerry,

Welcome to the TDR forum.

The Dodge part number for the sending unit is: 4897669AB

A good place to order factory parts online is Mopar-Wholesale, which is run by a Florida Dodge dealer. I've used them for a couple of years now and have been very happy with their prices and service.

You can download a PDF copy of the factory parts manual for your truck HERE. The file size is about 8. 2 Mb.

Best regards,

John L.

Jerry,

I'll second John's welcome and just add another option for a parts website here-http://www.dodgeparts.com/. It's the same type of thing John sent you.

Westbury Dodge in Long Island, NY runs it for any Chrysler part you want. I've bought a few things from them and their prices are so good that even with shipping, it came in cheaper than either the full price that any local dealer wanted or from Napa for aftermarket parts. Even if you don't buy from these websites, they are useful to search around for part numbers and to get an idea of pricing.

Hey John,

Thanks for the link to the parts catalog. Long ago I downloaded the service manual from a link very similar to the one you just sent for the parts. Now, thanks to you, I have the parts manual, too. I never would have thought to ask for it, not knowing it was available.

I did the sending unit fix posted on one of the forums 4 years ago. To this day still works grate no issues. The fix took couple of hours to remove tank do repair install tank. i think washers to fix cost 25 cents. Just my two cents.

I'm having a similar issue, but the opposite. My gauge is stuck on full for about 100 miles. It then moves downward at the right pace, but is inaccurate. I learned the hard way that 1/2 of a tank on the gauge means about empty. I had about 1/3 of a tank according to the gauge and ran out of fuel, stuck on the side of the road. Any thoughts before I drop the tank? Is it the sending unit or possibly something bent?

Sorry for the tardy follow up - been occupied with family visiting.

This is great info. How can I find the original post? Thanks!

Cheers,
