One thing I discovered on my '02 is that the 7-pin marker parking circuit has it's own fuse and relay (because who know how many lights are on your trailer) but the 4-pin is wired straight into the truck parking light circuit. .

Hmmm, I didn't realize that. I'll have to check it out to see if the '03s are the same... and they probably are. I may have to do some "moving"... :)

I connected the 8-gauge wire through a 40-amp circuit breaker, mounted on the firewall, to the driver side positive battery clamp. I also ran an 8-gauge ground wire from the Lance connector directly to the negative driver side battery clamp. I didn't want to depend on the factory frame/body grounds.

Our Lance has a built in automatic battery disconnect switch so it wasn't necessary to install a heavy duty relay between the truck battery and camper to prevent discharging the truck batteries when the engine wasn't running.

With the 8-gauge wiring, I can successfully run the 3-way fridge on 12-volts while traveling. The fridge remains cold and no flame blow out problems traveling on windy days.

Bill. thanks for the info.

Quick question. How do you unplug the connector behind the bumper? I can't figure it out because I can't see it. And I sure as he!! don't want to break anything. I broke the plug on my EGR because I couldn't see the part on the bottom that slides.

Thanks

Cummins - truck do OK with your 3. 42's and towing your 5th wheel!? Thanks.

Sorry I missed your question. I was thinking when I bought the truck I would swap to 4:10. After 11,000 miles I am averaging 9. 5 mpg with 27,000# combined load. Trip to Pharump, NE May Madness and back to Palm Springs no winds 80-90 weather. Trip to Pharump 8. 5 mpg altitude increase 2,600'. Return trip same conditions 10 mpg all hand calc. The last section of highway leading up to Pharump are a few 6 plus % grades. The slowest speed was 55 in third gear. So for now I plan on leaving the 3:42 gears. The mileage is improving with more miles. I am very happy with the performance, it is so stable, quiet and powerful. Had one two minute forced regen with about 5k when towing that is the only onein over 11,000 miles, I think it was a fluke? Drive them like they are supposed to be and they work great!

Forced regen?

What do you mean by "forced regen"? As in the EVIC told you to hit the highway so a regen would clean the DPF? I haven't had this happen yet and just curious. Wrong thread, I know! Thanks.

The EVIC said it was 80% full and was going into regen. I am no expert but there is passive regen that always is going on as needed and you don't know when it is happening. Forced regen may not be the correct wording. It should not have come on when I was towing like that so I assume it was a glitch. I had been towing for several hours when it happened.

Makes sense... thanks. I definitely know when mine is in regen, especially in stop and go traffic as you can smell it. I put in an Edge Insight CTS a few weeks ago and it shows when regen is on, as well as the differential pressure across the DPF.

Your truck looks just like mine same color combo only with out the training wheels. I really like the interior, they stepped it up this time.

Yes they did... great job. I have the Russet colored leather without the western stitching. Makes my 2010 Laramie look pretty plain with the plastic seats.

I thought they all had the fancy stitching. Mine is the darker brown, don't remember the name.

So two questions: one I already asked but no answer yet... how do you unplug the connectors behind the bumper? Or, will it be obvious when I get the harness? I just ordered the Bargman harness from eTrailer . What size hole did y'all drill in the bed? I've heard 2", and I have also heard 2 1/8" . I'd like to drill it this weekend before the part gets here next week. And I need to know how big of a hole-saw to get.

Thanks!

Oops...sorry!

Sorry for taking over your post there. My advice would be to wait until you have the part and instructions in hand... you can always go bigger but you can't go smaller!

I used the MOPAR kit and had the dealer install it. Big mistake as when I picked up my 5th wheel I had no trailer brakes. All the lights worked but the brake wire didn't make connection and they obviously didn't test it before giving it to me.

From the instructions it says this regarding unclipping the bumper harness: "Separate the 7-way connector from the vehicle wiring harness by gently pulling the connector and harness apart while holding down the connector locking latch. " On the MOPAR part, a 2 1/4 hole is required.
