I have to admit, I havent been as active tdr member as I was when I first joined. Last week, I was all but ready to sell my 07 5. 9L 6Speed. I ordered the truck on the last day to order 5. 9's and planned to keep it 10 years. I was going to replace it with a 1/2 Ton!

Friday, as i was merging on to the interstate, I thought the clutch slipped. Later that evering, as i was beginning a 1100 Mile round trip for the weekend, I knew the clutch was slipping. I nuresed the truck home sunday and began my research. Now I know this not the proper forum for engine and transmission and that not the direction i'm heading.

It is amazing how the search for the right clutch (by the way, I ordered a south bend street dual disc, the same one i had plan on buying to years once this one failed, but boy have the made improvements, cant wait to install this weekend) has renewed my love of this truck. I've got a smarty that I have never been to use to it's pontential in fear of clutch failure I also realized how far behind I am with the little tricks that members discover and share with other members. I would have never considered swapping for a 6. 7L damper until I skimmed across a tread yesterday when researching cluthces. The vast information available via the website and publication is unmatched.

I'm glad to be back, and i'm looking for ideas. Clutch is on the way, dmaper is on back order, currently reasearching tire options and other upgrades.

and think, if i hadnt had a $1,500 part failure, I might be driving a gas truck by now!

Glad to hear you were saved from selling your Cummins. Enjoy that bad boy after you get the new parts installed!

So you work for a Dodge dealer?

Godspeed,
Trent

Lewisburg and the surrounding area is beautiful country. We take a little trip up your way about twice a year for the Paranzino Bros. building material auction. Glad you're keeping the truck. Thad

I am with you, got one of the last 5. 9's and would not think of trading it. Even told my wife I want to be burried in it :D

Hvae fun with the new clutch, took me a little while to learn how to drive it again. Southbend is one of the best vendors I have had the pleasure of giving my money to.

Just had a SB G-56 OK installed in my truck. You are right a whole new world of towing for me with the new clutch. New to this site first post for me. Howdy everyone.

Sorry for the long delay

Clutch was installed about 10,000 miles ago. I absolutly love it. The 6. 7L Damper is a must do along with a real gear lube. I went with the pennzoil syncromesh. Very little bearing noise or plate chatter. Drives totally different. It seems like the truck picked up 50 hp just with the new clutch.

If you are looking for a clutch, there should be no question, the south bend is the only way to go, I had a customer install a valair (sp) in his truck and he was sick after driving mine, he wishes he had gone with a south bend

Glad you didn't sell your truck. I have a December 16th 2006 built, 2007, 5. 9 G56 also and I love it. Bought it new. I got lucky and got the 6. 7 ratio'd 6 spd. I too put a south bend clutch but went with the ofe single disc. I wish I went with the dual disc.
I am into the third week of a 4 week western states trip with my wife and towing our trailer. I am running my Smarty jr at the 75 hp setting and pull hills like a freight train.
I will have to look into the 6. 7 damper too. Do you have a parts number list needed to do the conversion of the damper?

ON the transmission oil... . Blumenthal has someone make their oil special for them... . I don't know who it is, but their oil makes a loose transmission quiet..... Much better than the SyncroMesh, I've found. You might look into it, when it gets some more mileage into it... . Just my suggestion from working on a few of these.

I have never had any transmission rattle or clutch rattle noise or any grinding. With the new set up or orginial set up. I do goof up sometimes and shift into the wrong gear but rarely which would be operators error.

So what is the 6. 7 damper installation advantage? Thanks

No neutral, pedal out mild gravelly sound when the fluid's hot either?

Only time I have experinced any gravelly sound is when I lug it down in gear while going through a parking lot {low speed} with the clutch out. That is to be expected which is not good so I engage and coast.

Reelay,

The advantage of the 6. 7 damper is it might reduce or eliminate that gravelly sound. Not only that, but also many of the vibrations that wear on the bearings and gears. Peter from South Bend Clutch said that the clutch will last longer with a 6. 7 damper because the vibrations won't be beating on the clutch. Well worth the money and effort.

Godspeed,
Trent

Trent, Thanks for the reply and I will consider this applacation. Dodge must of engineered this vibration factor into the newer 6. 7 engines after the 5. 9 engines had a failure problem. Good to know .

My Fluidamper did little to relieve the mild gear noise I have. It did noticably improve the idle.
