More changes?

Hello out their

I cannot emphasize enough how valuable the links in older posts have been to me time and time again when trying to find info in my searches. If these links are no longer working, the ability to tap into the wealth of information on this site has just taken a serious hit. If this has already been fixed and I missed it, please let me know. I understand and appreciate your decision to maintain security on this site, and I hate to gripe, but this is really a bad deal. Again, thanks for the great job you and the rest of the staff do with this site and the magazine.

I fully understand and I'm doing what I can to try to bring those links back but the security of the site has to come first. The exploit that was out there would allow malware to infect the site and then infect your PC's. As soon as we can bring them back we will.

There used to be a search function that allowed you to confine the search to a specific generation of vehicle. Is that gone, or, if not, how do you access it? The "Search" box is generic, or so it seems.

There's two different ways. You can either go to the forum you want to search in and then on the upper right of the list of threads you'll see a button that says “Search Forum” - that will search just that forum. Or you can go to the search by pulling down the discussion forums menu item at the top to “Search Forums” and then click on the “Single Content Type” and if the search type is “Posts” (which is the default) you'll see a section titled additional options that allows you to select which forums you want to search in. As an FYI you can also on a selection of forums in that list by clicking on the first forum on the list you want to search and then pressing the ctrl key on your keyboard and selecting the other forums you want to search on.

Steve, speaking of search, I am using Safari and now when I search for my posts by my user name, I ONLY get results of threads that I have started, not all the posts that I have written.

It even happens when I search for entire posts, by my user name. Can you please tell me the best way to search for my previuos posts using Safari?

TIA

I've read all 10 pages and have not seen this one. I no longer receive e-mail notifications. I checked my settings and it hasn't changed.

The email notifications worked immediately after the upgrades for me. The seem to have stopped the last couple of days. I haven't received one since Thursday or Friday.

Pull down the discussion forums menu to "search forums", click on the "search single content type" tab, type in your username and leave it on the default "Find latest posts by user" and then change the show results as to posts - that will give you all of your posts.

When you click on subscription status you get a blank page.

I'm aware of that issue and I'm working on it. They completely changed how the templates work in vB4 and I'm having a tough time getting the data to appear on the page - I'm 90% of the way there but have hit a snag. Still trying to resolve it.

Steve, I am curious if at some point in the future you might be a le to implement a "find my posts" and/or a "find my threads" one click link like I have seen on some other forums that seem to use the v-bulliten format. Such a simplification would be very welcome, by many I am sure. Again many thanks for all your extreme work to keep TDR going!!!

Found another way to do this - click on "My Profile" on the upper right of any of the forum pages and at the top of the left column under your username you see two links: "Find latest posts" and "Find latest started threads". I think that will give you what your looking for.

Steve, THANK YOU, that was exactly what I was looking for, though some forums incorporate that as a link button directly in the main search menu.
FYI-- using Safari, if I follow your directions in your post #148, there is still NO "find latest post by user" link, only "search entire post" and "search titles only". No matter which I choose, I ONLY get results of threads that were STARTED by me.
In any case, I have NO problem using the new links you have just told me about, just wanted to let you know of the anomaly. Thanks again.

Found another overlap issue Steve.

If you try to delete a PM:

Select message you want to delete
Go to the bottom to the drop down menu to select destination of the checked message
Observe the top option is not accessible.

Your missing one step in those instructions. Go to the search page and look just above the "Search In" Bar (just below the banner ads on the left) and you'll see two tabs - one that says "Search Single Content Type" and the other that says "Search Multiple Content Types" - click on the Search Single Content Type tab and then you'll see that option.

Good catch - I'll put it on my list to work on, thanks.
