Going to Bio ... Where to start

Does DEF Freeze?

I just noticed they sell a 2. 5 gallon container now, which is nice! For most folks that is plenty to last for a while. Prices have definitely gone up over the years, the first time I bought it the TDR-S was only about $90 for the 5 gallon can!

I e- mailed them 6 months ago about prices and shipping or local dealers and they never even contacted me. I guess I'll stick with Howes.

Dont get me wrong but its not to far in the future that all Diesel will be mandated to contain BIO DIESEL at 5%. I use and like Amalgamated products I use them in my truck every fill. I use the winter blend and find it works better than any I have used. But my question is when BIO comes in whats the advantage for me. I use Amalgamated as a LUBE I have never seen the mileage increase that some have I dont see the power that some have so as a lube the BIO in tests that I have read is the best lube and in far less quantities than what the pump will put in. I will continue to use the winter blend but just dont know about the other times. BIO is also one of the best cleaners there is.

Sometimes jou have to send a couple of e-mails to get someone's attention nowadays. I am guilty of missing a few, it is real easy to delete an innocent e-mail from the inbox when you are wading through two pages of Viagra and russian mail order bride junk mail and spam.

I have had very good luck with read receipts, just change the setting in e-mail to request one.

Most all of my outbound e-mail returns a receipt now. Doing that has saved me some big trouble in the past with Daimler, I'll tell you.

I have a folder just for read receipts.

Mike. :)

I have looked into this before, but the Cetane boost steers me away.

I have ran Cetane boost before, and my truck doesn't like it. In addition, if you research added Cetane you will find that it doesn't do what it's advertised to do. BTU's decrease (which means lower hp/economy) and it produces less peak pressure, again effecting total power/economy. About the only thing a Cetane boost is good for is winter starting, and low temp/low rpm/low load combustion efficiency. I use it once a year when I spend 7-10 days on FS roads and never getting above 20 mph, the rest of the time my motor got loud and lost fuel economy.

I also have been using it for going on 10 years. I have tried others and it seems to provide the best value to me. I definitely notice the difference during cold weather startup. The engine noise/rattle is definitely less using than when not. I have never had a winter fuel issue (gelling etc) down to -29. Since it is not my daily driver anymore a 5 gal pail lasts me a good year and as such I just run the winter blend all year. I will have to try the new formula next order. Might also try the 2. 5 gal pail too.

5% at every Diesel pump I have seen around Phoenix.

The Kinder Morgan Terminal in Colton CA is in the process of plumbing it in now to all the racks with diesel. They have completed the tank wraps that protect it from the cold problems in B100 from (even in So Ca ??) If you get diesel that came from a Chevron rack or Chevron refinery it has 5% BIO in it. The Terminal Manager from Kinder Morgan sent me a pic of the tank rap it looks like a section of a space ship.

Hate it when we get this stuff shoved down our THROATS. Thanks EPA for nothing. I don't use it, and don't want to use it.

Why does European fuel contain higher cetane than ours?

I am guessing its because the higher Cetane helps with higher rpm operation. Being that they all have high revving diesels the Cetane is needed. Cetane can be tuned for, but it still makes less cylinder pressure/power.

European fuel is made to different sulfur standards as well.

I've been seeing the Amalgamated banners up top here so I'm getting curious and I stopped by here. I read everything so far, and I've been to their website. I'm really concerned about lubricity and usually use seafoam or power service because its readily available. I get Stanadyne when I see it and is my preference. Who sells Amalgamated in the northeast? and how is it different from Stanadyne? Im curious about Tractorat's question with the Bio. I thought bio had better lubricity.

WayneM,
I believe you have to order the Amalgamated products. I use Super Tech 2 stroke and Stanadyne in my old first gen.
However, I would like to try the Amalgamated products after I run out of the Stanadyne. Just have to order the stuff.
Just in case you missed this?

Heres a lubricity study that was posted on TDR in another location. Unfortunately, they did not test the Amalgamated products.

Whatever you do, do NOT use seafoam. It contains alcohol, and any alcohol can be very detrimental to your injector/CP3. It will take any water in your take and make it so the filters can't stop it, and then you get water damage.

Thanks for that link Greg. I thought I read good things about seafoam. Didn't know about the alky. Don't remember reading it on the can.

I am sorry nobody got in touch with you, in some cases I try to respond via e-mail and my e-mail is blocked and without a phone number I cant get in touch with them. Randy
