Non-synthetic 2 stroke has proven to be a decent lube additive for ULSD. Testing showed it ranked in the top 3 of additives to prevent scoring and wear in HPCR systems. You can't use just any oil though. It needs to be non-synthetic and preferably non-detergent for best results. Synthetics and additives have a tendency to create deposits and other caustic substances under high pressures mixing with diesel. Most of us that use oil are using 2 stroke in anywhere form 200 to 600 to 1 mixtures.
Regular diesel additives like Stanadyne, Power Service, Howes, etc. , are useful to help cetane and some lube but lack the larger molecules like oil and older diesel. A mixture of 2 stroke and your favorite additive seems to be the most accepted choice. Avoid additives that contain alcohol or suspend\bind\attract water. That will damage an HPCR system quickly. Water should be filtered not combined.
