To make a long story short, I am in need of a APPS which on my truck in my Sig is located under my driver side battery. I have had a random P2121 on trips but clearing with the Smarty would keep the light out and the truck happy for months at a time. I Now get a instant if not within a quarter mile P2127 no matter the Smarty Jr setting or stock. Truck runs but no throttle and when it does it is very gradual, and I could not tow with it like so. Wiring seems fine, that leaves the APPS or ECM?! I can only hope not a ECM as dealer list on a reman is just around $2000.

I would like to try a APPS first as it will not break the bank at 300 ish for the part. Install is easy and take a few minutes. The problem is any dealer I call has trouble finding the part with my vin and the few that did said it is on National Back Order! 268 on order! 1 to 2 months wait at best.:confused:

I am posting on TDR here to see if anyone by chance has one I could purchase, or knows of one tucked away at a dealer that may have one? Is this a part I can try to source from Cummins?

I am suppose to leave for two weeks next weekend and the trip planned with towing is not going to happen unless I can get this sorted.

Cerb,

Is it the 3970084 shown at the top right??? I have a serious lack of hands on with the '03 thru '05 trucks.

If so I just stole the part number and tried Cummins Northeast, none in stock.

Smitty,

If Cerb's source (Hoesli) does not have stock, let me know. I can have Cummins Northeast call the factory and see if they have any Monday. I will tell you that Hoesli's price is right in line with mine so if they have one grab it.

Cerb,

I had not looked there. I do not have the part number of my APPS that mounts under my driver side battery but I can say their photo is not what I need. I know List price of my part from dealer is 307. 00. I do not think that is the APPS that I need.

mwilson,

I will source the part number asap of my APPS. I will attach a close up photo of the sensor. It is not as large as the photo looks and I am not sure if the numbers on it are a part number. I am also not sure if the spring is included with a new sensor. I am in such a bind here and sensor seems so unknown to so many when calling around. Most parts departments place me on hold for a while and then come back with I cannot find it.

Send me either the trucks VIN or the engine serial number. It may be a Cummins item, it is on the second gens at least.

Post it here or you can e-mail it to me.

I have found you cannot trust the pictures posted on the sites. The proof readers that build the sites are worse than some parts people. ;)

All you can do is call and give them any numbers you have to see if they can match it.

AFAIK, there are only 2 styles. Some manuals have the auto APPS installed and have no idea why. Since I haven't changed one on a manual not positive what it looks like.

Mike,

Thanks so much for the effort.

cerb,

I will give them a try asap. I was just basing my assumption on the price they have listed. Dealer full list for my apps is 307. APPS they are selling, they list for just shy of 450. Makes me think it is the previous style.

Smitty,

If I input the number 199W1893 into Bing the very first result is a page from E-Bay with various Mopar TPS units shown. I realize that is not a Mopar number but buried in those results is a mention of that number or there would not be a result. I tried opening each one shown and scouring all the text but my eyes were getting blurry. If you have a moment this morning give it a try. You know what it looks like so that would speed the process up.

Search result here...

I have to stress that I only searched with the number from your unit, I did not include Dodge, TPS or anything else into the search.

Edit... Go to left of that page and select one manufacturer at a time. It cleans up the results.

Flip over enough turds and you will find something of value..... :D

Mike above probably represents your absolute best chance of locating one but if all else fails you might start contacting the various MOPAR internet discounters who are mentioned in TDR from time to time. They typically do a high volume of business and might be more likely to have experience with that part than a local dealer.

One that I have used with great success in the past when I was running high miles and buying occcasional parts was MOPAR4LESS in Farmington, NM. There are others also.

Mike look at the pic at the top of the page on ebay that is exactly what mine looks like and I own a 04. 5

I have a hard time with the '03 to '05 trucks having never owned any from that range so it is a challenge. I have owned a lot of 2nd Gens and the Mega of course so helping on those is easy, if I can't figure what someone is looking for I go outside and pop the hood on the appropriate vehicle..... :-laf

I am busy putting the fifth wheel up for the winter, trying to beat Hurricane Sandy's arrival. When I get settled for the evening I will use my link into The Quirk Parts site and see if I can figure this out. I have his VIN so I can go in just like a real parts guy... ... .
