Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Throttle cable (Part Number 4897407AA ) on back order...

Just picked up a 1998 4x4 Club Cab with the 12 valve and NV4500. Got it home from 950 miles away and a week later the throttle cable hangs at WOT... it is frayed inside the plastic housing and will need to be replaced.



Now for the really bad part!!!



Called Dodge and they are on a back order status according to them... He stated he even has a customer that has been waiting on one for 2 months to date. Anyone have an avenue for a 4897407AA alternative? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Check the classifieds here and at http://www.cumminsforum.com/ Lots of 2nd gens are parted out, most have good throttle cables. The local junk yard might have one also.

Thanks! Will do! I plan on hitting the yards this weekend if I can ever get some time. Called Dodge, customer service to see if there was a release date on them, should hear back from the "case worker" today. Hope there is some good news!

The throttle cable was in that kit,right??? Memory is a little rusty on that.

That is the CANZ9700 kit that is referred to often. Yes, it includes a cable. It is also on national backorder.

With all those on backorder, it seems like this is a common failure ? Can someone post a picture of what to look for to see if mine is on its way out ?

most 12 valves out there are hitting some very high mileage. With that comes normal wear. The new design cables in production about '97 have the actual cable encased to protect the cable from the elements and reduce wear,but it also makes a visual inspection useless. From under the hood you will need to disconect the cable and feel it for smoothness of operation.
