Hmmm. It seems that when west coast gas prices spiked this summer because of a "fire", not only were the refineries pumping out gaoline, supplies of gas were actually increasing. I guess its just supply and demand. As the supply goes up, so does the price. :-laf

Yep, they raise the fuel prices for any excuse they want.

Now that the price of crude oil is coming down, I don't see the prices at the pump coming down much. It maybe supply and demand, but it's also greed.

Don't even try pretending you want to understand. You don't get it and never will. Just continue living in Seattle with leftists and blaming oil companies.

Gasoline and diesel fuel prices are much less here in Texas.

Its a different market on the west coast. It is isolated from the rest of the country.
And yes. Inventories went up. There was plenty of gas (supply). And there is only one place to buy it from.

A typical response from oil country. Dont pretend you understand the market up here. Remember, you have to protect those union oil jobs.

You don't understand anything about the oil industry, either. Texas is a right to work state. I've never belonged to a labor union in my life.

Yes, my clueless friend, the left coast is a very different market because it is not a free market system. It is dominated by your leftist/socialist meddling idiot politicians with their foolish rules and requirements. I am personally very grateful that the left coast is isolated from my state where Republicans and conservatives rule the state legislature.

Just blame the oil companies. No one gives a leftist twit if you do.

Well at least on that point we fully agree.

BTW, oil companies are not evil as you like to say. It is the people who run them that will tend to gouge us.

Sadly, more nonsense which only serves to reveal your lack of understanding of business in general and the oil industry in particular. If the people who manage the various and varied elements of the oil industry are gouging you please explain why the oil industry only earns a meager 7. 5% to 8% annual return on investment? Should they be forced by the heavy and corrupt hand of leftist state government to stop gouging you and settle for 1% to 2% annual income? Why would they bother to provide motor fuels at all in your leftist-socialist state if they could earn more elsewhere or by putting their money in something solid and safe.

Never mind the oil companies. While you're worrying about the price of gas and oil company profits, your bank and CC company are probably taking you to the cleaners- using your "free" money they got from Big Ben.

Nope, bailed out of wamu when the gov illegally gave it to chase. Now I only bank with local banks.
Credit card interest is only 6. 9% Higher than I would like, but much less than the big banks.

I'll bite on this one. As a resident of la republica de california for most of my life, it is a number of things that make sure we may more for fuel (diesel or gasoline) than other states:

1. Administrative and legal harassment of anyone who even suggests a rebuilt or new refinery is needed, let alone a very loooong and costly application process designed to make sure none get built. In part driven by the "NIMBY's" aka not in my back yard folks and our super majority state government ruled by crazy wacko's.

2. The California Air Resources Board (aka CARB) thinks of itself as an environmental pioneer and revels in creating a unique formulation for gasoline that costs more, does a little bit and creates a special market for this state. They are the implementers of the US EPA air quality rules, which are themselves the acts of people attempting to prolong their jobs, not really clean things up. All of the rules and regulations have no basis in reality or cost effectiveness, but are the darling of the environmental wacko's so prevalent in this state.

3. CARB hires people of dubious skills and qualifications, but they are never called to justify their "rules" etc. One guy claimed to have a Phd, and had none, was not fired when found out.

4. Dubious claims as to the effectiveness and impact of new rules, without any cost benefit. Most of the claims are "30 percent reduction"... . When means in real math, 0. 03 percent overall reduction, since the 30% or whatever the number is based upon the starting base years ago, and ignores the real improvement to date. Worse yet, no cost justification is required. If the real improvements were made clear, it would suggest the agency needs a fraction of the employees they have, so natural bureaucratic behavior of always growing and finding more reasons for existence are found or made up.

5. Our "leaders" state and federal who are supposed to represent us seem only to care about silencing the vocal and litigious people and have one thing in mind always, reelection. Just take one look at the nut cases we have as senators from this state, the governor and so on.

We are out of here as soon as I am close to retirement (couple of years at longest).

Well said, JLeake. The tragedy is the kenyan communist dictator and his cabinet wierdos love that wacko KA krap and are probably working right now on something even more destructive to automobiles and the economy.

BTW, the issue here is not the diff between texas and west coast prices. The issue is that there is now evidence that some refineries may have faked a shortage in order to artificially drive up prices.

Of course, those in texas would never believe that would happen.

Ive known you're not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I had previously thought you were smart enough not to believe the leftist media who creates those false stories. You're a hopeless case.

Yep, the oil companies are stealing from you. If it makes you feel good to believe that crap so be it.

I'm sure that, with credible evidence in hand, the Washington attorney general would bring legal action against the responsible oil companies, right?? So, has that happened?
