I drive a 1992 Dodge D250 Cummins with a camper. Ruff roads most of the time. Upper ball joint gave out and stripped out the control arm. Quick fix welded one in for now

I'm in need of a new upper control arm, bushings & new and better ball joints. The Moog's didn't last. What is better and will last. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Bill

Start haunting salvage yards or go online and fine them, about the best you can do. They are NS1 from Dodge.

I just did all 4 on my D350 with Raybestos Professional grade HD's from Rock Auto. Look like a beefy piece.

You might want to consider double shocking the front end to help wuth the beating it is taking. The single shock is no where heavy enough to handle the engine weigth and rough roads. We are using 4x4 shocks in addition to the stnadard one and that has helped a lot with front end problems.

I got the front suspention complete from a 85 1 ton dually thats in good shape that id make you a good deal on

I hate to tell you, but Moog makes the best ball joints on the market today. Try using a high pressure moly grease.

I will disagree on Moog,They will not hold up even as long as the OEM on 3rd gens. Very few first gens getting used around here so I won't comment on how the first gen versions work

If you go to looking for springs, try ordering some for a Cab and Chassis. They're a larger coil and will hold up better... . Also, look at supercoil's springs. If you get real desperate, I can get you whatever you want built. I've had good luck with the Moog parts. There's not much available for the 2wd market as far as upgrades..... Moog makes a super duty replacement I've used before with good results... I think it lifts the front end around 1" over stock. They will settle some over time if you really load them heavy, but they're much better than stock... ... http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/s...ap?model=D350&vi=1087107&year=1992&make=Dodge

Got to looking, Superlift used to make a replacement 2" lift spring for the duallies... . Superlift Part # 410. Not sure if it's still available.

Yes... . you are correct about the 3rd gens. The ball joints on them are going to fail prematurely no matter what you do ! They were designed the way they were for a good reason. They were NOT supposed to last.

But this is the first gen section. I never post in the 2nd 3rd or 4h gen sections. I have little to say about them.

As far as I am concerned Dodge stopped making trucks after 93. They were just over sized economy engineered cars from 94 up . They were built on a 5 year planned obsolescence instead of a 10 year as all cars/trucks used to be.

So future reference . Any statement that I make concerning trucks is solely referring to the 1972 to 1993 trucks.

If for some reason I decide to speak of the later generations I will state that in the first sentence. Be advised that there were many first gen parts that were held over and used on the second gens. So use the info accordingly if it applies. .

I spent half my life working with and developing the first gen trucks. I am retired now for the most part. I continue to develop solutions and or fixes for these trucks today because I want to and need some thing to keep me busy.

I know that all the posts are archived here on this site. I contribute to this site in hopes of what I leave here will remain long after I am gone. I almost died of cancer 5 years ago. I beat the cancer. But one day it will return.

Most of the people that were involved with the early development of the first gen trucks are now gone. I have no idea how long I will last. I encourage all of you die hard first genners to pull up all of my posts and print them out.

There's 40 years of experience in them . The majority of the information is fact ... not opinion! I just wish I could go back and do it all again. It really was an exciting career ! Oh yeah... . ball joints. . Moog is the best game still going.

But the Moog ball joints will not fix an under engineered suspension system. My first gen 93 uses the same part # ball joints as a 1972 D300... My daily 93 has 378,000 on it and still has the same ball joints and tie rods. It is the grease I use and how often I use it thats the secret. Theres no hope for the drag link and Idler arms. The diesel was just too heavy for them... . Good luck

I would seriously take heed to the recommendations and part #'s I put earlier this week in the thread titled
'93 2WD... Any way to raise the front end up?" They will save you a lot of time and money in the long run ! There was a vary good reason why we never "up graded"
the springs. We tried to but the results were disastrous !
