So whats up with the NO CAN USE THE 5 GAL JERRY CAN. The wife went to town to pick up some gas for the tractor (we are expecting some white stuff) and they told her this is the last time she could fill them I thought it was that she didnt have them in a rack that I built for 6 of them so that they wouldnt tip but no Some kind of BS about not an acceptable container (REALLY???) Don't know for sure but dont you military guys STILL!!! use these ?

Color?

Funny thing, I fill the back of my truck with a bunch of 5 gallon plastic cube containers the kind that came with veggie oil in them, and a metal 30 gallon drum. I head on over to the Biodiesel processing plant, and get them filled up. NO complaints there, but then again, we're talking biodiesel.

Hey Big they have gone away from the metal can's and now have Plastic can's makes it Nicer weight is less on them

!'m really curious about this! The Jerry can was and is designed as a fuel container!
They are still sold, and used world wide!
Some precautions required for long term storage, labeling as to fuel type and depending on what type of closure it has(threaded or lever actuated) and gasket.
Filtration of fuel(a funnel with a coffee filter) when dispensing in case of debris or inner lining deterioration.
However, I would like to see that (not an acceptable container) in writing!

Ya I dont understand I know that with the new gas can's its supposed to let less vapor into the sky. But I like my old METAL JERRY CANS they are durable and dont have to worry about them like PLASTIC ones. I filled the tractor up so im taking them down in the next day or two and ask them to show me where its not acceptable. GMan my pour spouts are the kind that have the small screen in the neck to catch the pretty good size junk and I have some really good filters on the tractor its carb equipped so unless its a boulder just pull the carb empty it and put it back on fire in the hole. That is why I like the old stuff I KNOW HOW TO WORK ON IT. AND it LOOKS PRETTY NICE TO :D

Thanks for info I will copy this and read on. But at a quick glance they went to plastic just because of cost. Thanks again it will give some ammo to act with in my disagreement I hope.

I asked the wife where she went to fill them. She went to the store while the Daughter filled the Jerry cans. Long time ago the guys DAD made a comment about the wifes Parents that I didnt find to funny and neither did he when the cops came to pull me off of him and had to pull 1 of his front teeth out of my knuckle. I dont know why she goes there other than SHE went to the store and the Daughter filled the cans. But still going to find out about the problem with the cans.

Genuine 20 liter British Made Jerry Cans!

Mine are the old military type the ones with the screw down rubber gasket caps the spout goes on the same way screw on with gasket NO LEAK. I have had mine for quite some time. I take one to use camping in TT and using Generator its easy to fill. The plastic ones seem not to vent well and take for ever to use.

I have a modern yellow plastic 5 gallon can I got from Oreilly. It haste a safety nozzle that doesn't work very well and it takes forever to drain with its tiny nozzle.

The 5 gal food safe cubes work a lot better... Trouble is the biodiesel KILLS the rubber seals. Yellow plastic can usually gets left home when I go fetch biodiesel.

Aside from your history with the station. The local fuel station I frequent doesn't care what your container is made out of as long as it the right color for the fuel. On a side note is that a Jubilee or 640? Sharp looking tractor. In my opinion the 50's tractors had some of the best sheetmetal work of any tractor. I really like the late 50's 30 series John Deere's.

This one is a Jubilee but not TOTALY original I had to find some other sheet-metal that replaced the rusted pieces. It was a project when I was single living in Ca I had 5 acres that I needed to keep dicing to keep the weeds down. It was a pretty fun project the wife loves that tractor she works the tractor when I plow the snow with the mules she picks it up and puts it over the fence into the pasture ive told her we could get a new one with a cab and heat but she wont hear of it. She said it reminds her of the TV show Green Acres. It doesn't look like that now we have put it to work when we moved to MT last spring/summer we bought a post-hole digger we put no less than 200 poles in around our place and Son put in AT LEAST 4 X that many maybe more at his place it works all the time summer doing farm chores around the place and winter snow removal and has never failed to start for the days work.

BIG, sell the GI Jerry can on eBay They're worth a pile of $$$ then go out and buy the new approved plastic cans.

I have one just like yours, but haven't used it in many years. I'm tempted to sell mine on craigslist.

Thats kind of the reason why I like them Grizz THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR MANY YEARS. I have a couple of the plastic ones for the weed eater and one for the chainsaw they are a 2 stroke and I mix the oil/fuel in it. Its gets nasty and starts to leak around the caps and I just buy another. But these Jerry cans I fill up the tractor/gas engine compressor so I use allot.

The nozzles on gas cans you buy now are a PITA!.

And the most important reason is from, Newt

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the current nozzle designs part of some clean air/anti-smog regulation. So, no vapors in the air, but you spill half the can on the ground trying to use the crazy nozzle. Sound good for the environment doesn't it.
