Took a little ride

Before we retired I had a calender in my work locker I use to click off the days until it happened. The other drivers said you'll be back the first time it REALLY snows!!! We love this place I cant imagine retirement for ME any other place. But I DONT HAVE TO GO OUT AND WORK IN IT unless I choose to. To drive a gas truck like I did in So Ca up here would be unimaginable. I see the drivers unloading fuel at our stations I buy them some coffee and take it to them. They have a bewildered look most of the time and I tell them I Did that job in So CA and your a better man than I. Some have said NO I HAVE BEEN TO SO CA you are the better man :-laf

Actually, I give you credit for driving a gas truck anywhere. I've never pulled one, usually just dry vans and mostly strait trucks. I did have the "pleasure" of driving a 3500 gal tri-axle tank a number of times. I never felt comfortable with it. Can't imagine it in heavy traffic with unexpected stops.

As far as retirement is concerned, I don't see myself ever making it there. However, I do want to have a place down south to get away every once in a while.

Well the way that we looked at it Calif was good to us financially and in our ability to retire as soon and as well as we did. But what is left in California IS NOT WHAT IT WAS when we first got married 36 years ago. The wife is from where live NOW and I WONT leave it standing UPRIGHT.

Ive HAD trouble in BELIVING ,if there is an ALMIGHTY then how can things that are happening around the States be going on? I take my usual hour or two break from life just about everyday look at this an wonder if im wrong.

THIS IS SOMETHING SPECIAL!!

Well, all those critters you have mentioned do not bother me. The one that has gone to the top of my talk to God list is "No Seeums. " You cannot see them but they bite and it hurts! Why God, why?

And BTW Mr. Isaacs, we went thru SnowFlake in July... ... ... ... ... ... .....

Yup, we have those little suckers too! Dang, I was in Florida in May, just the western tip of the pan handle and was scared to death, dang tornadoes all around me. I left Enterprize, AL. early in the morning and did not stop until Beaumont, TX. before I felt safe... well... . except for Houston the next morning, I think that was worse:-laf

Barry, we travel to FL frequently to visit friends. In fact we'll be down there at the end of May.

As an excursion, I'm looking at spending a couple of nights in Cedar Key. That must be in your 'back yard'. Have you ever been there? Any suggestions for places to eat and things to do?

The Condos at Cedar Key have a terrific deal. Starting on Sunday night, 3 nights in an ocean view condo for $229... ... ... ... but you have to be out before the weekend. World class restaurant on the main floor will cook your catch for you! Check it out... ... ... ... ..... great little get away... ... ... . if you can go during the week!

Cedar Key is only about 45 miles from us.

Hey Uncle Bill, radar shows it's snowing on you right now!

Yep, the radar was correct! Only the second white Christmas in my lifetime living in Texas. When you posted this, we had already received about 5" and it was still snowing and drifting. It was beautiful early this AM at sunrise (21-degrees) making the snow sparkle.

OK, I've had enough... it's time for spring! :-laf

We live in Citrus County Florida. It is a neat little county 70 miles north of Tampa and is bordered on the west side by the Gulf of Mexico. It is called the Nature Coast because, at least to me, it is the way Florida USE to be! Home of the 10 minute rush hour! Great roads, 2 wonderful hospitals, 3 Wal-Marts(2 of which are brand new) low taxes. (our house, 2300 sq. ft. on 1 acre, $770 per year. Insurance $1700 per year) It is cheap to live here... ... ... ... Fresh vegetables year round.

Barry,

Can you tell me about "old Florida"? I am 44 years old and have been to Florida a handful of times, mostly for work in the big cities as an adult. I like history and would like to hear about your version or others version of Florida as you remember it. Any pictures?

My parents moved to Sarasota in 1976, and to me at least, it was an attractive option. My most recent visit was in 2009, and it has evolved into an over-populated over-malled mess like Long Island. The only advantage is better roads and better weather.

I agree! It's a ZOO and the inmates have gotten loose! Our county in not that way. Our rush hour is 10 minutes long... ... ... ... ... ...

Barry you mentioned "The Condos at Cedar Bay". Is that the actual name or does the place go by some other name? I've search for this and nothing appears on the web.
