First, I tried a couple searches on the topic presuming that this has been covered before, no luck. Then I had a look at the FAQ to see if something about this was there, didn't see anything.
So, after having had the fusible link fail from fatigue (since fixed) on my ~300k old '96 in remote part of Nevada that is almost Death Valley I've been pondering either outright removal of the solenoid and a Morse type cable replacement, or a supplemental/auxiliary linkage system to over-ride the solenoid in the Off condition should some part of that system fail again.
Any thoughts, threads, or concerns with such a mod? The convenience of the stock system is not a concern of mine, being stranded again by something that should be simple and robust and isn't, is a concern.
