Question on fifth wheel prep 2013

Ordered mine today. Dealer said they just got their allocation two days ago--my order goes in with their February allocation for a March build.

3500 DRW crew cab Laramie Longhorn 4x4 longbed (need to change my sig now :) )

Looks like price went up ~$5K from 2012, but half of that is the Aisin transmission ($2650 MSRP--can't remember if there was an option cost for the 68RFE in 2012 that that should be compared to)

Fleet price for Costco members is $700 under invoice

With everything available except hard tonneau, chrome tube steps and chrome mirrors, $61,480 plus 499 dealer handling, use (sales) tax, and some minor title fees. I forgot to investigate what the first year's registration fee and taxes will be.

Paying $60k for a new '13 is probably exactly the same amount of value we were actually spending on an '08 at $40k. The dollar has been devalued severely in the last four years. By 2016 the same truck will cost $100k. Your $60k trucks will look cheap then.

looks like I will be putting in my order mon. I need to find out if you can get sunroof with rear dvd. and what axel ratio to go with.
I need to find out the diff between longhorn and laramie limited.
what color are you guys going with? I like the light green. sage I think

The Mega dually is heavy, about 8200 lbs. I would go with 4. 10's and the auto or 3. 73's with the standard transmission.

Task, the difference between the Longhorn and the Laramie Limited is the interior. Longhorn has the more western style seats with what I'll call decorative stitching. Also has 2 tone dash. Laramie Limited is also leather, but more plain with non-decorative stitching and uni-color interior. Both use a full grain leather for seats.

I forgot that the back seat DVD video is another option I passed on--don't remember noticing if they resolved the conflict with the sunroof (which I did order). I'm going to take a chance on the Western Brown Pearl. The show truck makes it look really nice under the klieg lights for the photos, but I know mine will just look muddy 95% of the time :(

Task, enjoy the experience!

You are getting a Mega Dually I believe so, you will have a choice of all three axle ratios. If you are towing heavy primarily and mostly, the 4. 10 is the way to go.

If your truck is more of a family truckster and daily driver, I think the 3. 73's would be the lowest I would go with the Aisin and 33 inch tires.

Cheers

yup, getting a mega drw,The NADA site only lets you select 342 or 410s. if you pick 373s it switches motor. and it will be a weekend hauler,I have a 14000 dump trailer for side work and an hour long parkway drive once every 3 days

4. 10s would be my choice. With the double overdrive transmissions, the 4. 10s are just fine for daily driving, including freeway work.

Got a nice e-mail from Ram this morning with my VIN (at least, with the last 8 digits) and a link to the vehicle order tracking site, which shows my truck's status as "Production Scheduled" (there are only eight possible statuses available on the site--the next would be "Frame").

So then I called the old customer service number listed on Fritz's Ram Site for checking order status, and that still works, too. Using my VON, they were able to give me the full VIN, and listed the status as "in firm schedule", but there's no specific build date listed (he said production usually starts within 30 days of that status; that fits with an end of February overall line start date); the guy said the first status with a date would be when there's an "estimated ship date", and to check back around the end of the week or next week. So far this looks like a much faster response than on the last two I ordered! :)

Looking at my cheat sheet of production status codes, D="In scheduling queue (VIN, no date)", and D1="Build date (and estimated ship date)", so that syncs up with the consumer version of info available from the web and telephone. :)

The quality of the leather in the Laramie is not in the same class as the Longhorn. Sit in both and you will see.

Hi there, I am also looking for the date on what month it will be release. I want to buy one and my dad agree, we ask our dealer and he has said that in a few months. I will be updated on this forum so that I'll know when is the release. Anyway, our dog was recently trapped on the wheel because he's so small we couldn't saw it right away. I have also read a related story, last week, Pepe the pup found himself in a situation when he got caught inside the wheel of his owner's car. He was not found until the vehicle had traveled 10 miles, where he was freed unscathed. Oddly, it is the second story in the same week of an animal taking a wild ride, held in a bizarre place in a car.

You guys that have gone through the ordering process: any indication as to the availability of a manual transfer case in any trim level above base?

Sorry, I was only looking at Longhorns, and didn't pay any attention (the electric transfer case shifter has been the only option on Laramies, all the way back to my '03).
